I researched this topic as well. I ended up going for Enkei wheels (factory spec offset and hole pattern). Enkei are one of the very few reputable rim manufacturers that supply OEMs (Honda included).

I found KXWheels out of White Rock, BC. Great service from Bryan. Cheaper option than 1010tires or my Honda dealer. PM me and I'll put you in touch with Bryan.
Thanks,
my honda dealer offers aftermarket wheels from a company called RWC wheels...don't know how good/bad they are, can't seem to find much reviews either, apparently couple of other honda dealers also offer that.

I'm pretty upset. My car had to go in for body work due to a paint blemish appearing on the right fender (their theory is that a buffer was left on the fender prior to the clear coat being applied) that wasn't discovered until after two weeks of having it and now they discovered that the recall was expanded and my VIN was now affected. So, in less than a month of owning it, my brand spanking new car has had to have body work and potentially engine work as well. I'm so let down.:(

Just think you could have had a Chevy and had the ignition lock up and plummet to your death

Which 2016 Chevrolet has this potential issue?
It was 2010 and older. I owned one of these and it took them forever to replace the ignition switch.
These recalled GM vehicles included:
  • All 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt
  • 2007-2010 Pontiac G5
  • 2003-2007 Saturn Ion
  • 2006-2011 Chevrolet HHR
  • 2006-2010 Pontiac Solstice
  • 2007-2010 Saturn Sky
http://www.safercar.gov/Vehicle+Owners/Consumer+Alert:+GM+Ignition+Switch+Recall+Information

Two months after receiving the initial notice from GM and waiting for them to do anything about it, I forced them to take it in stating it was not safe to drive. I had a rental (provided by them) for over 3 months after while they waited to get the replacement switches in. Not the first GM I had recalls on, so I jumped to Honda (the 2016 Civic EX to be specific) to get away from recalls, and here I am. Waiting to be able to bring mine in to be inspected. My local dealers are not taking any in yet.

So all of you guys that are getting your engine inspected, are all of you in the states? Do us Canadian get the short end of the stick and we have to wait until the recall notice from honda to even get anything started?
Vancouver here.
No recall notice yet even though my VIN shows up as Recall on honda.ca/recall
asked about the procedure and NO loaner vehicle will be provided :(

My dealership will drive you where you need to go if your appointment is less than 3 hours. If it's going to be more than that they have a fleet of loaner cars

I just tried to buy a 2016 ex today and while filling out the paper work the sales guy comes up to me and says. "Sorry. We can't sell this car. There is a recall that needs to be taken care of. It's a clip or something. "

I drove across town to a different dealer and the sales person there said that there was a recall issued this morning and there were only 3 on the lot that were not affected. The recall involves the Pistons or something.

I have looked in the Internet to see what this recall is without success. Does anybody have any ideas?

Robert

Update 1:

I just spoke to honda. I called the number listed on the recall web page - 888-234-2138

It's the engine. It seems that some fastener is coming loose or breaking causing pistons to come loose too (clarification - it's regarding a piston pin snap ring - there's a stop sale on it, per david1pro).

Parts are currently unavailable... I guess this means I'm not getting the one I had my eye on any time soon.

The issue is with all trim levels but seems vin specific from what I got out of them.

If you call and give them your vin they can tell if your on the recall. I'm sure they will issue some sort of formal recall soon.

Good luck.

Update 2:

Per CdnColin:
Like everyone here I just got off the phone with my dealer. Unfortunately my vehicle does have the 'M63 Piston clip' recall. They are showing that the part will be available February 5th. I will be called when the part is in. I have been told the car is fine to drive in the meantime. My car was made in Canada and was one if the first 1,500.

UP-DATE: CORRECTION
So I got off my butt and just visited my dealor. I was misinformed this morning as there was some confusion in the coding. My 1.5 Turbo Touring is subject to the M63 which is the amp. update.

My 1.5 Turbo is not subject to the M66 Piston Pin Circlip service. The M66 recall apparently is a 2.0 litre issue.

Update 3:
Summary per camhabib:
- There is one open recall and one TSB. The recall is for a piston clip, the TSB is for an amp issue effecting Touring trim levels.
- The recall affects only the 2.0L engine, and is VIN specific.
- The website is not currently up to date and you just call the Honda Recall line for info on your specific car.
- Parts will be arriving some time in the near future (Feb. 5th was suggested), and notices will be additionally mailed.

Update 4:
Translation of internal Honda memo sent to dealers, by j_illang:

So I got my hands on the company letter sent to the dealers. Not going to post it here because its not in English. In a nutshell:
  • 29-Jan afternoon, Honda Canada advised Transport Canada for a voluntary security recall impacting certain Honda Civic 2016 vehicles that are equipped with a 2.0 litre engine
  • On these vehicles, the circlip of piston may have not been installed properly which can cause defects or fuel leaks.
  • The models in question will be called in for inspection, and those that are damaged will be changed. Till date 1 case due to this problem has been raised in Canada and more in US.
  • Canada 8000 units, US 33,735 units.
  • Dealers should not sell any cars meeting the criteria above without inspecting first. Any sales that do occur, dealer assumes all responsibility for damages.
  • Tool to fix will be Snap-On BK5600, latest delivery 5-feb.
  • TSB A-3-15 will be issued as a guide for repair.
  • Buyers will be notified by mail during month of Feb. Can also verify on website after 1-feb to see who is impacted.
Called Honda to enquire about my 1.5 touring, not impacted. Also checked website, same conclusion.

Update 5:
Added official Honda recall memo above.

Honda Civic 10th gen 2016 Civic engine recall - piston pin snap ring issue affecting some VINs question

Recall Details
On certain vehicles equipped with 2.0L engines, a piston pin circlip may not have been installed or may have been improperly installed into the piston during assembly. If the circlip is not properly installed, over the course of engine operation, the piston pin will rub against the cylinder wall causing noise and damage, or in the worst case, the piston pin may detach from one side of the piston and cause an engine failure. Engine damage will eventually result in the engine stalling. Engine stalling would result in a loss of motive power; an engine failure would result in a sudden loss of motive power and may result in an under hood fire. These potential outcomes in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and repair as necessary.

So I was waiting to post this with fingers crossed until I was out the door with papers signed, but I managed to get my dealership to take my EX with Sensing back. I was affected by the Engine recall as well as the Surging issue described in another thread. I took it in multiple times and after getting no answers I wrote a letter to the General Manager. He contacted me and we looked at various ways to resolve the issues. After a few days of back and forth and a few meetings I ended up getting him to take the car back if I was willing to let him put me in a trim level up. I ended up walking out the door with a brand new EX-T with Sensing today for $21800 with no loss taken on the other car's purchase price and he included the 8 year 120,000 mile full Honda Care Extended Warranty in the price.

The irony is that I chose the 2.0 in the first place because the 1.5 Engine was new and untested so I went for more reliability. The General Manager was an absolute joy to work with - he once even met me at my office since he was in the area, rather than me having to come down. With the extended warranty included I was happy to give the 1.5 a shot, knowing that any issues will be covered. After experiencing some frustration with this dealership initially, I have to say they truly went to bat and worked hard to re-earn my trust and loyalty as a costumer. I agreed to finance through them and they got me a 1.25% rate to put icing on the cake.

I'm not sure how isolated my experience was, but in case there are any other 2.0 Civic owners out there who wish they'd have some options perhaps this will help. Major shout out to Great Lakes Honda in Akron, OH! If you're in their area and looking for a vehicle please consider them! PM me if you'd like further details!
So, how well did the deal go so far. I have got 7k km already on my car. Looking forward to make a switch to turbo. Is there some information u feel could help.

Yesterday, I signed a purchase agreement for Civic EX. On that agreement they gave me a VIN # and when I checked, it is under recall. I called the dealer and they told me all Ex 2.0 would come under recall so they will need to be checked with borescope before delivering it to me and most probably there won't be any issue. I have not given them any check from the bank for my loan but they have put a hold on my credit card for 1500 bucks for deposit I guess. I am not comfortable with new vehicle engine opened before me even buying it. So I want you guys suggestion on if its not a big deal or if I should ask for a newer vehicle that does not have a recall or if I should ask them to upgrade me to a EX-T turbo model with some discount maybe.

Thanks

It's not a big deal unless the inspection finds the missing or mis-installed clip(s). No owners have reported such a result yet. But it's not no issue at all in your context. It's really up to your personal comfort level--the scope of work involved is outlined elsewhere in the thread, in excruciating detail and repetition, as well as in the TSB itself, which is also posted in the thread numerous times. You could express your concern to the dealer and ask for either of your alternates--but you are very unlikely to get an EX-T at the same price. At a minimum, you should ask the dealer to confirm that the recall was completed and inspection results were negative before accepting the car.
