Topics like these are tough, because one's anecdotal experiences don't cancel out others' anecdotal experiences.
It appears that the OP is "outnumbered" by others who have had few, or even zero issues with their Civics. Still doesn't change the OP's concerns, but might at the very least offer up that perhaps it's not "common" for all the Civics to share the same issues. I'd say generally the reliability of these 10th gen Civics is good so far, and I'd project we won't see any major issues like Ford with their Focus RS head gaskets/heads blowing, etc. etc.
So far our 2017 Sport has been amazing, but admittedly it's only 4,500 miles in. i will say we do have a dash/vent rattle in the left most vent, and that shit is annoying. We had a similar rattle in our 2005 Element that we bought brand new in 2005, and owned for twelve trouble-free years. The dealer never tracked down the source of that rattle, and it'd come and go. Here's to hoping that our Sport hatch rattle can be tracked down, and fixed.
To the OP:
Sucks you're having these issues. You're on a Honda forum though, and some of us are life long Honda fanatics whom have had nearly zero major issues with multiple Hondas we've owned. I worked in the Honda repair industry for almost fifteen years, so I was fortunate enough to get very early indications from techs, etc. on which models to avoid. Using that knowledge lead us to buy a 2005 Element instead of the A/C exploding pile of shit CR-V of the same year model. Coincidentally a lot of the shit CR-Vs were made in...England LOL. You know, where all the hatches are coming from.
I'm of the same opinion that I try to avoid the first model year of ANY car, period. That meant we waited for our sport hatch until the Civic had been out for a full model year, and after talking to techs, reading, etc. we decided it'd be the first new Honda we've bought since 2005.
Having said all of this i'll offer a final thought:
Don't let this one vehicle deter you from future Honda purchases. I'd say your issues are minor, and associated with tech-rich features in a lower model on Honda's line-up. If you keep this Honda I think you'll find the major mechanicals will not give you any trouble for years and easily 150K miles if you maintain it properly. If THIS one bothers you so much sell it, or trade it in for another model with less tech shit.
