Personally I won't go over 3k miles, our oil goes through a lot of abuse, I religiously use amsoil.

that really sounds obsessive, as Amsoil SS is good for 15K extreme service (aka, our engine type) so, 3K is quite low OCI.

We have a couple Master Techs here in So Cal saying it's best to leave it in for a majority of the cycle if possible. For those wanting pursue further, I might recommend speaking with a local dealer's senior tech. Some have corroborated the explanation here:

The UOAs suggest it won't make a huge difference after a few thousand miles. But that could change as more readouts come in.

hey guys, I have a stupid question:
how hard is it to change the oil for our type r?
same as the hatch. you have to remove the bottom piece to get to the gizzards, the entrails. mine looks overfilled but for a 3.8q sump, who cares, anything to get some more oil in a small sump.

I didn't go thru the other link's 10 pages. But if you're really interested in your oil, send oil samples to Blackstone Laboratories. They give you a full report summary including what elements are in it. I sent them a sample of my old SR20DE engine oil using Castro GTX 5W/30 w/ 270k original miles on it back in 2013. At the time I was doing 7k oil change intervals on the old engine.
Here's what they commmented, " This is a really nice sample. Universal avg show typical wear about 5k miles on the oil. This oil run was a little longer, but metals are almost all lower than avg. The one exception is lead, which might show a little bearing wear, but just 4 ppm of lead isn't usually a problem. We'll watch it, but at 270k miles, we'd say this engine is in really good shape considering. The viscosity was a little low, but that's harmless. The oil otherwise held up very well for you. Go ahead and try for 8,500 or even 9k miles next time. Great engine!"
Fast fwd to 4 years later @ 300k miles, the engine recently blew out a bearing.

How much oil do our Type R's take? I plan on using amsoil ss and the oem filter.

I hadn't heard this but have heard about other cars and it made me curious too.

Can anyone speak to this authoritatively?
I’m a service advisor for Honda. The Honda’s are equipped with a maintenance minder system that monitors how you drive. I’ve seen people come in every 2,000 miles just because he drove a lot of city and hard driving. I’ve also seen the maintenance minder come on at about 12,000 miles because the driver only drove on the highway but I believe in following the oil specs. No more than 5,000 miles
