Ferrari is supplying their newest motors for Sauber next season apparently. The 2017 season they had to use 2016 motors which were shit from what they were saying, compared to what everyone else had. We shall see if they can become competitive.
I raced for them in my F1 2016 career mode and was winning a lot after I got a bunch of the R&D done for the team. Probably should have upped the difficulty at that point, but then I went over to Honda Mclaren. Been racing for them in F1 2017 and they set up a good car at Canada and Monza and I got wins there.

yeah, it'll be a good year for fans :), but sadly, I think Mercedes will dominate again, as their V6 hybrid engine is now pushing 1000 horsepower
as much as I am a Hammy Fan, I still don't think it is good for the sport if one team can dominate for that many years.

Same with Nascar as I stopped watching when Jimmy Johnson started winning every single year and most races. I want to see if Torro Rosso is going to turn into McLaren in '17 with Honda engines in their cars now. They can only hope that Honda has worked out the bugs and can put out power and reliability next season.

Kubica tables $7m offer to Williams, for seven races!

Robert Kubica has reportedly offered Williams $7 million for its second seat alongside Lance Stroll next season, but on a seven-race trial basis.

The Grove-based outfit appears to have set its sights on Sergey Sirotking, a surprise contender for its coveted drive who came out of the blue following his impressive performance at the Abu Dhabi post-season test last month.

The Russian is rumored to be backed by a generous sponsorship package from Russian bank SMP, valued at twice the amount available to Kubica.
But Alessandro Alunni Bravi and Nico Rosberg, the Polish driver's managers, are attempting to sway Williams' decision in favour of their driver by offering $7 million to the British team for the first seven races of 2018.

"If he does not convince Williams (during the 7 races), Sirotkin will replace the Pole," reports Finnish broadcaster MTV.

Williams is reportedly "seriously considering" the Kubica proposal, which is why the team postponed its 2018 driver line-up announcement until after the new year.

I haven't been into F1 that much, so I'll ask this question. Does anyone know why Rosberg retired while he still seemed to have so much more left? Same age as Hamilton. I mean just because you are at the pinnacle is that really a reason to retire?

He mention this was his best chance to stay on top...he didn't think he will have a chance to be above Hammy after 2016, so he wanted to retire on top .... I think

Nico Rosberg fires back at Niki Lauda over Formula 1 retirement criticism
Reigning champion says 'this is my life' to do with as he pleases
December 8, 2016

Nico Rosberg hit back at former boss Niki Lauda, who had criticized the reigning world champion’s decision to leave Mercedes and quit Formula 1.

Lauda, the F1 legend and Mercedes team chairman, had said Rosberg made the outfit look "stupid" by leaving it with a top driver to replace him in December. But Rosberg told the German newspaper Die Zeit that he was left puzzled by the sentiment.

"I don't understand what Niki was riding when he said that," Rosberg said. "He must have misunderstood something. If it had only been up to me, I would rather have waited until Christmas to announce my retirement, but I didn't want to do that to the team."

Rosberg said there is little room for pure selfishness in F1 but conceded that it was his life. Thus he defended his decision to quit as champion, insisting that he would have come back in 2017 had he lost to Lewis Hamilton.

"It was strange," he said. "The thought of quitting was motivating. At the same time, I couldn't think about it too much, otherwise I would lose focus."

But he did reveal the extent of the stress he was under as he fought for the title this year, saying that "because of the pressure," he struggled even to sleep. And referring to his battles since 2014 with Hamilton, Rosberg told Sport Bild that his championship defeats left a profound impact on the newly crowned champion.

"Fighting Lewis in the same car and losing twice was horrible -- disgusting," he said. "I had to fight back again and again. Beating him is just exhausting. It sucks a lot out of you physically, but most of all mentally. I did mental training, started to meditate. In Japan, I met a Zen master before the race. I raised everything to the next level.

"Now I have reached my goal. Sure, I could have gone on, trying to defend the title. But why? It's easy to want more, more, more, but you also have to be careful and not lose yourself as a person. For me there is nothing more than this title. I wanted it and I got it."

Last season put an immense pressure on his family. Rosberg travelled around the world, leaving his wife and his young daughter at home, and he feels it is time to devote himself to them.

Understandable, too, after a gruelling 10 years in the sport. This season in particular, he was in a brutal battle with Lewis Hamilton, one that he describes as 'so damn tough'. After giving everything to beat the Brit this time, you can see why he wouldn't be keen on the pressure of another fight at the top.

Rosberg retired from F1 just days after winning the 2016 F1 World Drivers’ Championship, when he edged out Lewis Hamilton in Abu Dhabi.

The German, 32, stayed away from the sport in the early part of 2017 but was seen much more around the circuit later in the year and is now part of the team negotiating Kubica’s return to F1.

And Rosberg, who raced for Williams for four years before joining Mercedes in 2010, believes working closely with Kubica could be the secret to his future happiness.

“Being a manager, having a couple of drivers [could make me happy],” Rosberg told the BBC.

“Because that’s something I can see with Kubica, that I enjoy that because you can really experience similar emotions to when you’re driving yourself.

“That’s cool because the emotions you have when you win and have success as a driver are so intense.

“It’s not easy to find that so quickly elsewhere in life.

“But there’s an opportunity if you work with other drivers and support them and become part of their team to relive some of those emotions.

“That could be something in the longer term.”

Rosberg has spent his first 12 months out of racing filling out his “bucket list”.

This new HALO system looks insane as well. I'm surprised the drivers can even see in front of them enough to avoid collisions. I mean this would have made much more sense.

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/...frontal-protection-system-at-silverstone.html
Vettel used it for three laps, before having it removed as it made him feel dizzy... The device was fixed to the German’s Ferrari on Friday morning, but Vettel completed just three laps at Silverstone with it on, saying afterwards it made him ‘dizzy’.

Vettel said: ‘I tried it this morning but I got a bit dizzy. Forward vision is not very good, probably because of the curvature.

‘You get quite a bit of distortion, plus you get quite a bit of downwash down the straights pushing the helmet forwards. We had a run planned with it, but I didn't like it so we took it off.’

Yes sir...some drivers are ok with it , but some not. Hammy just flat out hates it! I personally like the windshield idea from red bull more than the HALO, but also made RICardo a bit dizzy when he tested it earlier in the year or last year (anyways).
