Does your Type R make an audible ticking at idle?

Normal. Go see a 2012-2014 328i. That N20 has the worst ticking of all engines I seen. Keep getting ask "IS THAT A DIESEL ?"

Some engine ticks more than other, the 6cly BMWs are much quieter than the 4s.

I just got rid of my 99 SI with a JDM B18C(R) engine. Well, the first Type R engine I had in there did that. My son drove it for a year and never checked the oil and blew it. I got another Type R engine put in there, and it ticked the same loudness as the other. Sounded exactly like this.
My FK8 ticks also, so don't be alarmed.

Yes this is my first Honda with a DIG engine. Thanks for letting me know.

So it's normal for Honda engines, but is my CTR the only one doing it?
I'm so glad I saw this thread. Just got a CTR, 400 miles on it so far and this noise was really stressing me out. It sounds just like yours though, so maybe it's fine.

Yeah no reason to worry. I was just being paranoid I guess.

I've now seen many videos of CTRs that have the same noise. No reports of any issues yet.

When I first got my R, I face timed my buddy who's deployed and did a walk around of the car so he could see it and hear it.

When I got to the exhaust, he could still hear the DI tick over the exhaust.

Our DI system is loud, it's perfectly normal.

It may be normal... but if you're concerned, why not take it into the dealership and have them comment on it? That way you have it documented that they confirmed it was fine if there is an issue down the road. A couple hours for peace of mind.

That said I do concur that most Honda engines make a similar sound... even the V6 lump they stuck in the Gen1 NSX. I'm mildly embarrassed by the sewing machine sound it makes while stopped at a red light.

I don’t like people touching my car. If you want me to be honest with you.

I avoid dealerships at all costs.

It's a fair concern, but what's the point of having a warrantee if you can't take it in when something doesn't sound right to you.

I have trust issues with dentists, but when when my tooth hurts...

I'd agree with you, but it's not a concern anymore. I posted this thread back in Dec 1 so it's sort of old now. I just ignore the ticking now.
