First off, im new to these forums and am very interested in a type r. i currently own a mazdaspeed 3 so i am no stranger to fwd hot hatches.

i am curious if theres any info on what turbo the type r uses, i couldnt find any information about that online. additionally does anyone have an idea how tuner friendly the type r will be, in regards to the stock turbo, stock fuel pump, and stock internals and how much power they can handle. being a honda engine, im curious if itll be able to make and handle even more power with basic mods and a tune (similar to the gti and golf r with stage 1/2 apr tunes) or will it be like the rs where just a tune doesnt make much of a difference.

thanks!

forgive my ignorance if im posting a redundant thread, mods feel free to delete this!

I am a current CTR owner and many of your questions are still foreign to most of the general public I believe because of the hype surrounding the release of the CTR to the states. I can say I’m ready for more power as I knew I would be and From what I can tell much of the performance bolt ons, hondata tunes etc. are still in the works. I believe most savy performance shops have barely got their hands on one to know what kind of technology they are dealing with exactly in the new FK8 as this is truly a completely new platform even over the FK2 which of course was a mock run up never to make the states designed for Honda to work out its quarks for the all new redesigned FK8 platform with the exact same Motor. Knowing Honda’s history and solitude when it comes to engine capability I don’t put it past the FK8 to easily make 400HP at the crank with some soon to come modification releases. The car is a dream to drive over its former counter partners in theory for me as I’ve only had my fair share in former platforms, but my hat is off to Honda for finally bringing a long distant dream into the American consumer. Thank you Honda From a fellow USA CTR owner for a chance to have some fun!

old thread, but the turbo is a Mitsubishi TD04.
That's a properly sized turbo for excellent spool and 300 crank hp, but not much headroom for more. The Evo X has a td05 for comparison and max its getting at stage 2 is 350whp

I wouldn't fret though, it's a Honda so the engines probably stout and it stands to reason that the MHI-18k will bolt on like it does for evo's then you have 400+ whp with an oem reliable turbocharger
