As the weather is getting colder & messy, washing the Type R by hand becomes difficult, has anyone taken their car through a basic carwash? Just wondering if it would be safe for the rear wing, touch less washes don't do a great job and would love to know if anyone has tried? Thanks!

I haven't tried, but I wouldn't do it. I have a black CTR. No way to know if the guy before you drove through a sand storm before going into the same car wash...
I'd suggest getting even the Sport version of Ceramic coating and, at the most, use the auto touchless wash. You might have to reduce your hand-wash frequency to fit in with the weather. Also, don't be afraid to use some 60-70°F water to keep your hands from freezing. It works as long as your ambient is above freezing.
If it's below freezing, just skip it. You could make some nice black ice in your driveway, fall, and break your clutch-foot!

Agreed

Touchless car washes only for me. If she's a little dirty afterward, a little dirty is better than scratched to shit

I pressure wash my car, then run through the touchless. Not the best wash, but it does a good enough job.

you'll be introducing a lot of micro marring and scratches by going through a car wash like that :(
but I've never had to deal with ridiculously cold weather so I don't know what you guys have to go through

Try it out!
Throw a 16lb bag of ice into your 5 gallon car wash bucket next time you go to wash the car... also try to wait until the coldest, windiest f#&$*ing day you have. Stick something inside your hose to simulate a frozen-over hose. Wear long sleeves, get them wet, it's so FUN!!!

Haha yeah you got me there!

It's funny here how people let 'winter' guide their life decisions.... like people will only buy AWD and CUV/SUV's because of snow. I'm like seriously? It snows maybe 40" a year over maybe 3-8 snow events... you do not need all wheel drive, you need good tires. It's like daily-driving a Super Duty because you tow a camper once a year.

I don't know if I am brave enough to try that. It already feels cold by dipping my wash mitt in water when I wash my car in the late afternoon lol.

Hah yeah man.
I started using heated water for my soap and rinse bucket which helps quite a bit. Just need to be careful to not go too hot and break glass.

Never going to take my car through a car wash. Which is why I am doing ceramic and then use the spray/touchless wash.

I use self service car washes during the winter. Most have a no bucket wash policy. However, if you go later at night or off peak hours you can do a full bucket wash no problem and I've never been hassled by the attendant as long as their isn't a line up. I do this full wash procedure several times during the winter, however I also stop by the self service wash after a big snow or ice storm where salt was used on the roads just to spray down the car body and underside with clean water. I don't use a ceramic coat, but I do make sure to have a fresh coat of paint sealant on the car going into winter.

I can't imagine taking any car I care about through an automatic car wash. Even the touchless ones are probably using some soaps and chemicals that may eat through your paint wax/sealant.

Imagine hand washing your car in a walk in freezer.

That's warmer than washing a car here in winter.

I have a walk in cooler / freezer at my work and i'm in there for 5 mins, i'm already freezing my butt off.
Here in california, if the temperature hits under 50 degrees, we are complaining its cold lol.
