I dropped off my car last night for paint correction/PPF/ceramic/tinting.

Got a call this morning from the guy asking if I knew parts of my car had been repainted!

He says driver side rear quarter panel under the gas cap has sanding marks not polished out completely. Upon close inspection he can see overspray from rear driver door, quarter panel and bumper being repainted.

Dealer never said a thing to me. I called them and was passed to service manager and he says it was not them. He is looking into it with Honda Canada but says damage and repair in transit happens and the dealer is not informed if it is minimal.

This could affect resale value so I am kinda pissed at the moment and not holding my breathe that the dealer will find out anything,

There has to be a record of the repair somewhere. Any ideas on how to find out?

This happens more than you think and manufacturers don't have to disclose it. Dealers aren't typically informed either. Plenty of cars from all manufactures especially when they are shipped overseas see odd damage in freight. We have seen other people here comment on overspray in areas of their cars so yours probably isn't the only one. This is why it's extremely important to do a thorough walk around (hopefully with some knowledge of what to look for) when you pick up your car as that's the only time you have a chance to walk away if it bothers you this much.

Unfortunately the dealer is correct on this. In many cases vehicles are damaged during shipping and repaired at port as they come into the country. Sometime the repairs are done nicely and other times they are quite poor. Hopefully your able to get it taken care of though.

I don't know what the law is in canada but unless the repair costed over a certain amount, they don't have to disclose it to the buyer. I believe it was like $500 or $1000 or something around there. If it costed more than that to repair, they have to disclose it.

I used to do car appraisal and have ran into many times where I tell the customer that this panel has been repainted and they would go on to tell me that they bought the car brand new and they've never painted it.

Ouch, sorry to hear. I've heard of these kinds of horror stories before so I told my friend (auto detailer) to bring his paint gauge when I was purchasing my CTR.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

brutal! I would be PISSED OFF bad if I knew that.

Sorry to hear that. I'm sure the stealership...er um, dealership will make good on the repair.

getting it fixed properly shouldn't be a problem and likely won't affect resale value if it is done correctly and isn't documented anywhere.

Shocked to listen about all the blunders happening during shipping. Well, I am going to buy my 2017 Honda Civic and will be shipping my vehicle to California, USA. But at the moment I am a bit confused as to how and which shipping should I rely on. During a discussion with my friend, she asked me to surf online so that I can get more helpful hints about shipping related companies. Suggestions are most welcomed!!

Alot of our cars came with what seems to be overspray and sand spots that were not polished. Dont't worry about it just have your detailer do a proper paint correction and you'll be fine

I worked at a body shop some time ago and we had 1 guy that only did dealer work on brand new vehicles. 99.9% of the time, it is very minor blemish stuff: rock chips from transport, paint was thin, etc.

The repair will never hit carfax, autocheck, or anything of the sort. It is considered an industry standard and shouldn't have any negative impact on your resale value.

Interesting, because that is exactly what the detailer found. He decided it was repainted. I think he also measured paint thickness but I will have to check with him on that.

Dealer says they looked into it through Honda Canada and are 100% satisfied that there was no damage anywhere in the shipping process. So I will leave it at that.

Car came back from detailer looking flawless. He did a great job, well worth the money.

I'm very happy for you! Let it shine now :)

I am a bit puzzled why you needed "paint correction" on a new car?
Also can you tell me what is "PPF"?

Many new cars require paint correction, especially ones that sat on the dealership lot for a period of time. Here is a new Range Rover I just worked on last week (granted its a black vehicle), but there is usually a lot of room for improvement when it comes to the quality of finish on new vehicles. While they don't always require extensive paint correction work, they always require some level of polishing.

PPF stands for Paint Protective Film (aka clear bra)

I remember when I got my Murano rust proof, the technician ask me if it got repainted? I was like no, just picked her up a few weeks ago.

I pretty much brush it off, I doubt the dealer will be upfront and what am I going to get out of it.

Sometimes it's better not knowing. Whatever he saw I doubt it'll impact my trade-in.
