Haha for sure guys. It's my first track day so I'm new to all this. But in the future I'll for sure look after the tires better!

So how do you think Honda rated the Type R average tire replacement 10k miles ? Track or everyday commute usage? Haha I would hate to find out 500 miles at the track and its time to replace.. lol

If you are pushing it, I doubt the stock tires would last 500 miles at the track. I'd think the 10k miles is for everyday commute, and may be 1 or 2 track days.

I'm at 3000 miles now with 1 track day and there's still plenty of tread left. I think these tires can still do one more track day, as long as I put in the correct tire pressure. Having said that, I'm getting a dedicated set of rims and tires for track day purpose. Once these OEM tires are worn out, I will replace them with something else - probably one of Continental Extremecontact Sport or Michelin Pilot Sport 4S.

That's true. I'd imagine if this was at 95F weather instead of 64F, I would've ran into overheating issue. Having said that, as you can see from the video, this is not a big track with long straightaways. Most corners are done in 2nd gear. IMO, that means there's not gonna be much air flow to cool down the radiator and intercooler.

I gues if one is into track days, it's a great idea to get some cooling mods done.

The other question is, even on hot days, how many owners are going to push their car hard enough to cause problems doing an HPDE event. I'd say you'd really got to be an experience driver willing to push the car close to its limits to even worry about it. I've tracked my S2000 on several occasions, I've pushed it hard on hot days, but I'm not a driver that is looking to shave a few seconds off his lap time. I'm out there to have fun, be safe, and drive my car home at the end of the event.

Awesome. Remove the top front guide pins and you’ll get more front camber.

The 2018 owners manual suggests running 42psi cold under high speed conditions. The 2017 manual doesn’t say that for whatever reason.
What is the top front guide pin for?

Has anyone been able to compare the stock CTR tires to something else for track use?

Ive also always been skeptical with the skinny & large diameter wheels. Not sure how that could have been the best choice.

I dont buy that at all. I mean sure lower profile tires would give you more feedback, but its not like you dont already get a lot of that from using 18inch wheels.

The 20s are more likely there because Honda thought people would like the way it looks, and that helps sell cars.

But hey, I could be wrong. People who swap out the 20s and the one off Continentals for 18s and a proven tire might be getting much worse results.

Moving from 18s to 19s got one particular driver .17 secs faster. Its a single study with one car in particular, which also stated that in the end that 18s would be the sweet spot.

Im not convinced you can use that to make generalizations that skinny 20s would be the best choice based off 1 internal article. I am not sure if you are being serious here, which is okay because it doesnt hurt to have a sense of humor.

Agreed that 18s are the sweet spot for track tires and wheels. A lot more options, less weight, and cheaper. 20s don’t make sense for track purposes unless you’re restricted by regulations.
