This was posted back a while ago and still no developments from it nor any announcements from Honda. Nothing but speculation at this point.

Based on what I read here, many members here would prefer a "regular" automatic transmission than the CVT.

A Civic with an 8-speed DCT is the Acura ILX.

In the future, try to make your topic titles reflect what's actually being posted. In this case, it's speculation ;)

NOT ME ! I think the CVT is the best thing since sliced bread. Simple, light and wonderfully smooth. Longevity is still an open issue but I'm optimistic. If Honda goes to an 8 speed DCT then this'll be my last Civic. I think that's unlikely since it would be big, heavy, more complex, expensive, clutches which are always a liability, and never as smooth as CVT.

I tried the CVT in 2 occasions and did not like it. Maybe I have to learn how to drive it. I floored the gas many times and It would give smooth launches. I expect a quick launch when I go full-throttle.

IMO. The CVT is great for day-to-day commute but not too much for "spirited driving".

they will go to a dct if they are planning more power, as the cvt cant handle that much torque.

I do think that criticism against the CVT is overly harsh. It is true that it slices out a bit of power and it cannot keep up with the tempo during enthusiastic driving but it is the most comfortable transmission ever for calm driving. There are some competing auto trannies that are more suitable for enthusiastic driving but they would lack the comfortable and fluent ride of it during calm driving. At the end of the day, Civic is indeed a cheap car and we cannot expect PDK performance from the tranny of a cheap car :)

Driving CVT felt very smooth why is honda ditching it?
They aren't. OP should have indicated in the title that it is only speculation from an obscure source.

It not too harsh. Sure, you can praise the CVT for being the most cost efficient, lightest, and low cost tranny that there is but there will still be complaints about performance.

CVT is the main reason I sold my Civic after 7 months. I am happy they are considering other choices now.

It is smooth but that's the only thing it has.

Honda CVT's are fine, smooth, and hopefully reliable long term. I can't imagine they would look into something other than CVT's, especially in the Civic. It's all about fuel economy, and the CVT accomplishes this. At least it's not implemented like a Nissan CVT, just feel bad for those people who have to suffer with Nissan CVT's.

Totally agree. The CVT Civic is not a performance car. You want performance? Buy a Type-R.
