It’ll be interesting to see if the grinding goes away once the temperatures start dropping. It appears it may be heat related?

Not outside temp related

I live in ND and we're already getting 30 degree mornings.

Had it happen for the 2nd time about a week ago. Now have over 2800 miles on the car. Interesting thing was, leading up to the most recent grind, I felt as though I has having trouble shifting smoothly going from 1st to 2nd. No matter if I was driving normal or aggressively. The grind happened during an aggressive shift, but after that, I noticed the problem I was having shifting smoothly went away. Not sure what the problem is

I'm starting to think it has something to do with the slave cylinder.

Sometimes it seems like it doesn't fully release first and that seems to be when it's more likely to occur

Has anyone experiencing this issue bled the clutch hydraulics and checked/adjusted free-play?
I bled my clutch when changing to a better fluid and also set free play in the pedal to specs. still noticed a 2nd gear upshift grind sometimes leaving pits for time attack. changed to Motul Gear 300 and have not had any more issues.

Thanks. I was contemplating switching to Torco MTF as my transaxle is pretty much broken in now, so it's time to change the fluid. Now pondering Gear 300 ...

My UK car has been with the dealer for a few days now for them to look at this, and they keep test driving it but haven't had the crunch yet. Apparently Honda said it's the first one they're aware of in the UK with the problem (lucky me), and they really want one of the techs to see/hear it happen, and may send one of their own techs out if the dealer's guys can't cause it, though I'm not sure exactly what Honda's own tech could do different from what the dealer's are doing. Honda did at least acknowledge that they are aware of the problem in North America, which you'd hope they would be by now. Not sure what's going to happen if they can't replicate the problem, as obviously they can't keep driving my car about indefinitely - I'd like to drive it myself at some point before it's worn out!

I am not saying the Motul is better than the Torco. Either way, the stock fluid is good for normal driving in most conditions, but not really good for high performance frequently

so i changed out my MTF a week ago today per recommendation of my dealer rep just to try it, and havnt had a crunch since. im not saying it wont happen since i have gone a week without it acting up before. but who knows? i will say for only having 1k miles on my car the fluid was much darker then i was expecting. no metal or debris though

Anyone else not like the idea of "fixing" our transmission via a fluid change after you've already had it grind so many times?
Well if the fluid change stops it happening that can only be a good thing, but it is a fair point that there may already be damage to the gearbox and a fluid change ain't going to fix that. My dealer has just returned my car as they had it for a while but couldn't get the crunch to happen, which isn't surprising as it's only happened maybe half a dozen times in nearly 2,000 miles so you could drive it all day and not have it happen. Obviously they can't just keep putting hundreds of miles on the car waiting for it to happen, so we've agreed that I will drive it normally and notify them each time it happens and we'll see whether a pattern develops or it gets worse.

Most importantly, the problem is now recorded with Honda, which for one thing helps them to get a picture of how many cars are doing it (apparently mine is the first one reported in the UK), but also if I had gearbox problems later that could have been caused by this I would expect them to be sorted out even if the warranty had expired (that's a long way off at this point, but there's no way to know how long it might take serious problems to surface). Fingers crossed they find something definite as the cause and it can be fixed long before then.
