Why did they test in eco mode and not in just regular drive???

Any 10th gen owner knows that drive is where the car is the fastest. Sport mode simulates shifting, making it slower. And Eco mode? Seriously?
Yeah i own the Touring model and the reason is when you have eco mode engaged it lowers throttle response for the car and does not dump fuel into the mother but it gradually releases fuel, and drive mode does not let you max out each gear in your transmission well "gear" since it is a CVT, more like a rubber band. But when it is in sport mode you can actually red line in essence each gear. To maximize performance.

Personally, I have no doubt that we can get more power out of the engine on the 1.5T. My main concern is the CVT. Will it be able to handle that extra power?

1.5T. 4000 miles. In D no Econ TC off. Finally did couple hand timed 0 -60 runs last night. This is the best. Worst was 7.15 with stability control on and some loose gravel on pavement. 38°F 800ft elev as flat as possible each run about half tank gas. Never (in 38 yrs) been able to match car mags' times in my cars but this time ...

I just thought it would be fun to watch the Civic ExT to beat a stock v6 Camaro or Mustang. Or give a Focus St a good run. Geesh dont be a troll. ;)

Why? All those cars you listed are factory tuned to be performance cars. The civic ext exl and touring are economy cars that happen to be pretty damn quick. The focus st, wrx, Camaro and mustang do not get 42 mpg or run on regular gas. I bet after hondata releases a flashpro for the civicx it just might keep up with a focus st. You should seriously change your name to HondaNoob

I saw one report that said if you put it to the floor in Econ mode, it will temporarily disable Econ, but I have not been able to confirm this. This makes some sense, as it can be a safety issue. If you really, really need to get out of the way, that power should be there for you regardless of current mode.

If this is true, the test in Econ may be largely meaningless as you're going to have your foot on the floor the whole time. I'm also puzzled why they didn't test in Drive mode, that might provide the fastest times of all.

They did race it in D for the second run while also having Econ on, as they said it was to give the Si the best advantage possible. And despite what a number of members have said in here, mashing the throttle in D or S never gets me to redline and they both simulate a shift at about 6,000rpm. Man ... I sure love how hard this economy car pulls!

I saw an episode of Top Gear where they had tested a few cars in their regular drive modes and Econ modes and quite a few times the cars were actually faster in Econ. Something about going full throttle paired with the Econ shift mapping. While it does slow throttle response, and doesn't feel as quick, sometimes econ mode can be the faster (weird...)

But i agree, i wouldve liked to see it in normal drive. I basically NEVER drive in sport or econ mode with my 9th gen. Sport sucks down the gas and isn't any faster, and econ mode barely saves me an average of 1mpg.
I finally tried Econo mode on my EX 2.0 and was surprised that I seem to have better acceleration from 0-60 km/her than normal...normal drive is better over 0-80 km/hr

Wait how is the civic ex-t maxed out? The car is stock. I'm sure With basic bolt ons (cold air intake, piping, exhaust) and a tune it should be much faster.

I've reached red line in drive mode, and even then, it adjusts the ratios, it doesn't shift. Sport mode simulates shifting to feel sportier, but by adjusting the ratios like it does, drive feels quicker. Sport mode just holds the rpm higher from what I've seen.

Go try again. It shifts in all modes. Can't believe people who own the car are now claiming this.

YES! Exactly the sentiment in my last post. If he's seeing redline in D, it's time to see the dealer, unless there's a trick the rest of us don't know about. Now I have played with L a little, but even at 62mph, it's still only around 4,000rpm. But I think this CVT is pretty smart, adjusting revs even in L to match the current needs.

Something is seriously wrong with that Si. Almost every stock 9th gen Si that I've seen will run around 9.3-9.5 in the 1/8th, except for the one you guys have. 10.2x in the 1/8th is right around what a stock Toyota Corolla runs.

Here's the slip for a bone stock 9th gen for comparison:

my best 1/8th in my 9th gen SI on an 80+ degree time was 10.048 fyi

1/4 was 15.530. i've seen some run faster but a lot of people I talked to ran between 15.5 and 15.0
