As I am still undecided on what air intake to get, I have been using my K&N filter modified for several months to act as a sri. It sounds exactly how any sri would sound on the 1.5L, but at a cheaper cost (about $50). Just use zip ties enough to hold it in place. No issues, no error codes. Runs good, sounds great.

i would check on your fuel trim. since your MAF is not in the same position as factory. it could throw your fuel trim off. Or did you just turn the intake box that way just to take a picture?

Definitely looks weird, but if it works it works I guess, but now there's a slight bend in the intake tube, now is no longer a straight through design, might affect it slightly but maybe not. :dunno:

Honestly by this picture, I would have left it the way it was, the bend in the intake tube, not good. Also now that the bottom piece is missing, it's going to get nice straight hot air. That would indicate heat soak. Which means loose in power? Regardless, nice to experiment.

Awesome way to destroy your car when the vibration rattles the zip ties loose and you suck dirt and shit into your turbo.

let the guy have is fun guys...come on.......
He can do whatever he wants but I wouldn't want some other ill informed member following suit. This is a bad idea, if people want to do things that are a bad idea they are welcome to but they should at least know it's bad before doing it.

I've had it set up like this for over 4 months now and check under the hood periodically at the zip ties and position. I angled it away as much as possible from the engine to reduce heat soak. I get 43 mpg on the highway after driving 60 miles.
But of course I do not advise if you don't feel comfortable trying this. I'll probly order the PRL CAI once it's out on sale.
This is just mainly for sound to hear that turbo. Maybe i'll add a few more zip ties for security ;)
Here's another angle from the top/back.

what's the advantage of this??? it is actually breathing hot air from engine compartment instead of fresh air from a dedicated scoop as in the original setup!

There is no advantage, he's doing it for the 'sound'... to hear the tiny turbo more
