I have 2 questions for Rev Match Function on the Type R.

1. If you held the clutch in while you down shift, but you don't let off the clutch from the floor, does the rev hold at where it is until you release the clutch pedal?

2. Is this Rev match function a single clutch down shift or a double clutch down shift, meaning does it spin the input shaft like it would in the double clutch down shift?

1. It does not hold rpm if the clutch pedel is held pushed in.

2. It senses the gear your about downshift to and matches the engine speed to transmission speed for a smoother transition. Maybe DSG is capable of double clutching but I don't think any transmission that has clutch pedel and has a rev match function double clutches. I could be wrong though.

He rev matches at 5:10.
He held the clutch in and just rowed through the gears then release at the lower gear he wanted? Does that work?

Yes, with auto rev-match you can keep the clutch pedal floored and bang down through the gears. Keep in mind if the RPM is not at the right threshold for the system to kick in you will need to blip the throttle yourself sometimes to have a smooth transition when releasing the clutch pedal or just continue down the gears. (ie. In bumper to bumper traffic or if you have to adjust your speed last minute to account for boneheads in front of you)

With normal non rev match function cars, i was taught that it wasnt good to skip gears up or down because it was hard on synchros. Would you guys say this still holds true even though apparently the car will match the right rpm (downshift only? Not upshift?)

I would imagine at the track its still best to release the clutch going down the gears? Or would you guys skip gears downshifting so you can focus on the braking?

Anyone else notice it never rev matches into 1st gear at all?

You wouldn't want it to rev match into first gear. A lot of people suggest never downshifting to first when moving because that's the easiest gear to cause a mechanical over-rev situation. First gear is pretty much for taking off only.

On normal driving, you wouldn't need it, but it can be done. Check the vid below; gansan is rev matching into 1st gear (@3:47) using a 1st gen Civic Type R to stay in front of the Integra Rs...
