I had an interesting experience on my drive home tonight and it prompted me to write this post to share my experience with the infotainment issues reported on the Civic X and to see if anyone else has come across the workaround that worked for me tonight. I'm going to try and keep things clean so I'm writing my experiences out using bullet points to convey a timeline.

My car and infotainment experience so far:
  • Driving a Civic Sedan Touring that was one of the first ones from the Indiana plant.
  • The car required the DSP software update from TSB 16-001
    • Pre-patch installation issues:
      • Once experienced a case where audio from my phone was "static", low volume, and generally poor quality overall. Problem persisted on the phone after disconnecting from the car, required restart of the phone to resolve the issue on my phone (and subsequently, I assume, on the car the next time I drove it).
      • No other infotainment issues ever experienced - including the issue outlined in TSB 16-001.
    • Post-patch installation issues:
      • Was using Apple CarPlay to play a playlist and on a few occasions during the drive, it randomly paused my music and required me to hit play again. Was driving on the highway, didn't seem related to shifting lanes and signaling or any other event.
      • Had an issue where the touch screen and audio controls (except volume) would not work for the android system and almost all built in functions. The screen had CarPlay pulled up upon ignition and I could navigate and use the screen for CarPlay only. Couldn't navigate back to the Android system built in, switch audio source, or control anything else with the screen. Fine after the next time driving it later in the day.
      • Experienced the problem described in TSB 16-001 where I had no audio for ALL audio sources (both with my phone plugged in and with it unplugged).
        • Fixed it mid drive - anyone fix it this way before??: Part way through my drive I decided to see if audio input worked, so I held the button for Siri on my steering wheel. Suddenly, the audio beep for Siri activating came through the speakers - although the audio quality was poor (like the first problem listed above during pre-patch days). I cancelled my Siri input and switched to FM/AM/SXM, they all were working suddenly with perfect audio quality. Phone audio was still poor, but at least I could hear it. Turned the phone off, turned it back on, sound quality was perfect again from CarPlay. Seemingly found a workaround for no audio...anyone else reproduce this? Next time you have no audio, try this and respond here - I'm interested to know.

Just was rereading through the TSB thread and noticed the very last post had a user showing a video clip of doing the same work around that I used (except with the Honda built in audio prompt rather than Siri). Sorry if this post has become repetitive and I should have actually posted in the other thread, but perhaps this will be spotted more easily since it won't be buried in another big thread.
