Norm Reeves Honda Superstore just got in a CW today and to be honest, fuck these dudes. Biggest bunch of bullshit I have dealt with lol. Called them two weeks ago, said I want a CW R close to MSRP and my wife wants an HRV and let's make a deal. Salesman I spoke to was like "Ok let's make a deal for two cars, get me the payoff on both cars and the year, make, and model". Sent him all the shit and he went radio silent. Texted him a couple times and he said "we are working on it". Calls me today to let me know that the CW is on the lot and asked if I had a trade in. I'm like wtf. Then proceeded to let me know the car has a 10K markup, non negotiable, and asked if I could be down there tomorrow at opening. Told his ass to pound sand. Then he started with the "only 2K cars are being made, we are getting 5 total, the most in CA" blah blah. Fuck these guys lol

Hard to believe this is the same norm reeves Honda Cerritos I bought my Mugen SI back in 2008 for invoice. I bought two Honda vehicles from this place. Maybe under different management.

Meh. I'm spending my mark-up money in Thailand next month. Guess how many massage I can get with that $10K.

I'm not surprised. tbh I'm probably more upset about how the dealers are treating me rather than the insane ADM. The way they talk to you when you offer a MARKUP that's not as high as they want frustrates you. Start talking to you like an idiot and telling you "oh there's so little of them out here, you'll never get one for that price". You don't like my offer, just tell me you don't like it and then move on with your day. They seem to always want to add the final word.

I just want to offer a+4k adm and if they take it, they take it. If they don't take it, just say you can't do that price and move on. I don't care to hear about all the BS that you want to tell me after. A dealer i called in the valley area yesterday claims they sold their first Type R for 85k and the 2nd one they got for 65k. Like really? Even in california, I can't see how ANYONE would pay 85 when they could've probably went to any other dealer and buy it for much cheaper.
This is why some of us went out of state instead. There's no need to entertain those greedy fcks.

yup. one of the guys i know works at the Hb location so the moment they got one he let me know so i called and yeah, basically non negotiable and didn't accept my 4k offer. "We have it priced at 10k. We have no reason to lower the price to 4k when we can sell this for 10k today"

I'll bet Honda has many eyes and ears on this situation and while they're likely pleased with the attention the Civic Type R is getting, they're likely disgusted with the actions of the dealerships that sell their products. Unfortunately, there's basically nothing Honda can do to stop the dealers from lying and asking any price they want. It would be a knee-jerk reaction for Honda to cancel the Type R out of frustration, yet they don't have the capacity to make significantly more without cutting production on other hatchbacks which sell in much greater numbers. Rest assured that Honda is watching this situation very closely to get an idea for how much people will pay and how the market responds to the vehicle. This will help them decide how to equip and price future variations. None of this was unexpected.

In the grand scheme of things, the Type R's ADM and its effects are minimal - there are probably only a few thousand shoppers who are disgusted or angry with Honda dealers over the Civic Type R pricing. I guarantee dealers lose a lot more business over shady, unethical practices every day on regular vehicles than they do the Type R.

You'll NEVER see 20/20 or 60 Minutes doing a news story on how much markup dealers are adding to the Civic Type R. You won't see it national news. You won't see it on local news. You will see it on enthusiast forums and social media where a few hundred people gather to complain about something that affects 0.000001% of the population. The general population doesn't care anything about the Type R. They don't know what it is. To them, it wouldn't matter if it were sold below cost or priced at $100,000 - there's just zero interest.

I feel like a broken record when I keep saying that this is all so incredibly simple - let the dealers ask what they want. It's perfectly legal and we can't stop them. Actually, we can stop them - just refuse to pay more than MSRP for the damn thing. If you're not happy with the price, save your money or go buy something else that isn't marked up over sticker. :)

Points well taken, but they have another production line at Swindon that is inop right now that they could fire up.

Yeah. I have a trade in so I would rather buy it closer by instead of having to go to carmax and selling the car after but i'm hoping that is the case. I feel like I am offering them a reasonable price.

btw, Honda of Pasadena wants 60k for the CW Ctr, Norm reeves Honda HB wants 47k, Norm reeves Honda cerritos wants 43k. Those are the three that i called today. None of them took my offer of +4k

edit: norm reeves cerritos got 3 of them today and asking the same price for all 3 of them. smh
Understood - the trade makes it much more challenging to buy from out of state. I also had a car that the Type R is replacing - I had it listed for private sale, but ended up getting a very strong quote from Carmax and sold it to them just today, in anticipation of the Type R arrival. Now, I have other cars to use while I'm waiting, so selling my current fun car wasn't a problem.

thats waste of money and resources. I live in the DC metro area with stupid money... basically every local dealer has 1 in stock and some have 2. Demand has been met and dealers are making the mistake of hording these cars causing inventory to bloat. Like I said those willing to pay that extra ADM won't wait, they already have it. Its almost end of the month again... meaning more inventory arriving.

Honda shouldn't be shipping additional cars to any dealership that still has one sitting on the lot, period.

If it's sitting because of some absurd ADM I agree.

I think in cali, there are people out there that would spend 10k adm on it. Too many people have disposable income down here

The one's that are sitting now in the DC area are due to ADM. Those that were willing to pay the markup have done it on the 1st wave. We are now starting to see the 2nd wave and those are the ones that are not moving as quickly if at all.

both fairfax honda and landmark has had 2 cars sitting on their lots for over a couple weeks now. Like it didn't sell then with ADM sure isn't going to sell with ADM in the future.
