A software fix. Imagine that. More to come, I'm betting.

That is not a bad thing. A manufacture can only test so much on their own, once a vehicle hits the real world under tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of different drivers will the vehicle really be tested. Cars today are computer controlled from the engine and transmission, to the electronics inside the car.

I get all that. My only issue is with the way they sneak them out and make owners know to beg, with the magic words, to get them. If I were king, every time a car came into the dealer for warranty work, Job #1 would be to verify/update all field programmable code to latest version.

The few times I have taken my truck into the Dodge dealer their computer tells them from the VIN number if there are any TSB's available for the truck. I would think the Honda system would do the same thing. I have not needed to take in this Civic for anything so I don't know if they work the same way or not.

I'm sure it tells them which ones Honda has pre-agreed to offer to all affected owners. But there are many TSBs they won't perform if the customer doesn't complain about that very specific issue. That makes sense for things like specific rattles and what not. For code updates, not so much.
