I turned off the auto blip function before leaving the dealership...
(i always heel toe myself...would be too weird too have a system do it for me)

Can the error still trigger without the system being used?
Yes. Primarily, the faulty connection causes an emissions-related error which indirectly affects the rev-matching feature. It's not unusual to see multiple errors appear as the result of a single failure for subsystems that rely on information from the same sensor.

For example, if a wheel speed sensor signal is lost on a model with Honda Sensing, the dash will light up like a Christmas tree with error messages from every system that relies on wheel speed data (ABS, VSA, traction control, automatic braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, lane departure warning, hill-hold assist, etc.).

How intrusive is the wiring harness replacement? Does a lot have to be removed in order to replace the harness?

Might be worth holding off on getting this car until the harness is replaced at the assembly line. If there's a service bulletin, it should indicate the affected VIN range.

I don't believe the rev match has anything to do with this failure, it just seems to get disabled when a check engine light is on.

Just the opposite - the Check Engine light is a summary of many inputs one of which is the Rev Match sensor input.
As the ECU is looking for the Rev Match, along with VBS, mis-fire, etc sensors as part of its start-up check, it's likely the error will occur, if you have the problem, even with the function turned off.

There's no such thing as a "rev match sensor". Rev matching is strictly a software feature that uses data from existing sensors that provide engine RPM, vehicle speed, and gear position. As long as the ECU knows what gear the transmission is going into using the gear position sensor and how fast the vehicle is going using the vehicle speed sensor, it can modulate the engine speed using the electronic throttle control and engine speed from the crankshaft position sensor for closed loop feedback control.

Agreed - the loose/intermittent connection is part of the circuit(s) utilized for many things one of which is to do the Rev Match function. From what I've seen of this issue, the predominant, but not the only, error indicated is the Rev Match error. There is no such unique item as a "Rev Match Sensor", just as there is no such item as an Emissions Sensor. The ECU reads all available inputs and if one or more is out of limits, including missing, it will trigger an alert, unique if appropriate, store a code, take appropriate action, set the "Malfunction" icon if emissions related, and the "System Message" Icon. Apparently the secondary O2 sensor line is also utilized in some manner as that is the circuit reported as the culprit, or there's a software error.

Just Fell victim to the emissions and rev match problem today. 1166 Miles. Badge #1086. Its Sunday so they are closed. Guess I have to wait until tomorrow to take it in. Is it safe to drive for say... 80 miles?

Once the part actually came in, the master tech had it done the following afternoon
Do you mind posting the warranty work paperwork? Just curious what's involved in the repair.

Do they have to replace the entire engine harness or just the plug?

The dealer kept the paperwork for me...they had to replace the entire engine harness. This is what Honda is recommending they do so that they can inspect the harness to prevent the issue at the source.

If they're replacing it with the same wiring harness, then the issue is going to pop up again. I wonder if they're already changed the wire itself at the factory?

Not sure if you know the part number of that wiring harness or not.

Would it be crazy to bring the car in and have the harness replaced before getting the code?
