My old Mazda 5 also had automatic climate control, and the auto setting had air blowing on the windshield and at the feet.
That makes sense. The problem with the feet is if there is any snow or ice on the floor mats from driving the hot air will beat it up and cause the windows to fog up. Too bad there isn't a way to save it on defrost and foot well.

So I did another test...The Auto feature seems to regulate the fan speed, but it is kind of flawed....It had to play around at first to get it to bring the speed up to warm the interior. The air definitely only blows to your feet, which is quite odd...Does nothing for defrosting the windshield, so you must use that feature to do so.

The other thing I noticed is that there is no actual reading for inside temp....Unless I'm missing it?
Does your AC stays on with AUTO on?

My AC turns off when I press Auto and when I have it on auto and go to turn on the AC, the auto turns off.

I noticed this morning that on Auto, the air was blowing on both the windshield and the feet, instead of just on the feet as I'd previously observed. But it was colder today, about 19° F, than it has been in the past couple of weeks, so maybe that's why?

The fix for the inside temp reading is in this thread.

Member Wolf13 found the solution and apparently it only takes a few minutes to fix. Good luck!

Are you 100% sure on this? I'm asking because if this is true, mine is not working correctly and I will have it in to be fixed. It's been below freezing here since I picked up the car, so if it's supposed to be blowing on the windshield when it's cold out, mine certainly isn't doing so.

I'm 99% sure, but like I said, today was the first time I noticed that air was blowing on the windshield in addition to the feet while set on Auto since getting the car 1/18/16. It has also been below freezing most of the time I've owned it, but today was the 1st day it was below 20° F. What have the actual temps been in your area?

Also, if it is cold enough, if I use remote start, when I get in the car, the fan is automatically on high and blowing 100% on the windshield. When I press the brake pedal and the start button, the climate control goes back to the setting I last left it on.

Has anybody else ever noticed that air was blowing on both the windshield and the feet while the climate control was set on Auto? What have the low temps been in your area?

Okay. I have emailed my service rep about this issue. I took delivery of my Touring on January 21st...So I haven't had it very long. It's been between 0 C and -15C since I took delivery. Obviously having air only blow out the floor vents, is not the most efficient form of air circulation. Not to mention, you should be able to set the temp to what you want it, and have it blow out whichever vents you choose. If you switch the setting to which vents you want, 'Auto' turns off.

I think the Auto light turning off if you change any setting is normal, because if you change a setting, it is no longer on full Auto. That is also how it worked on my Mazda, and I'm pretty sure that's how it works on Toyota, too.

Please let us know what you find out from your service rep about this issue.

You probably already saw it on my profile, but my Civic is just a base EX and I'm in Ohio.

I did read that a climate control button pushed, cancels the 'Auto' feature. This is also different from my previous vehicles, as I could set the temp, and choose which vents it blew from. That being said, I'm just trying to figure out if it is an actual issue with it blowing only on the floor, or if Honda has set this in all of their vehicles...

It would be nice if other owners in colder climates could add their recent experiences with where the air blows when the climate control set to Auto.

I was looking to see if there was a 'current' inside temp vs. the temperature you set the system to.
Were I them, I would not provide that feature to avoid a customer perception/complaints that the car was broken if they weren't always exactly equal.
