2015 Honda Civic EX-LNAV
To Whom It May Concern ,

Good morning. My name is Rudy Barrera Jr. and I find myself typing this letter to you in regards to my unsatisfactory recent Honda purchase. I have been a Mazda owner and have enjoyed my car but after ten years of use, I decided to get a new vehicle. After doing some thorough research on Honda, I was convinced and decided to purchase a Honda Civic due to the extras and quality compared to Mazda. I never owned a Honda vehicle but I was so excited to experience the new features as well as driving it home.

When I test drove the 2015 Honda Civic with my sales man Doug Robison, I noticed there was a vibration on the steering wheel while on the freeway. He told me that this was due to the vehicle being parked for so long that the tires had “squared off”; however the vibration would soon go away once it would be driven more often. He also told me that Michelin tires are known for this affect. I took his word and decided to purchase the vehicle on the evening of March 24, 2016. I was told to come back the following day so that the car could get the complimentary detail and wash. However I was not able to do so because of conflicting obligations that I had to meet. A couple of days later, I noticed a small scratch just above the glove compartment so I decided it was time to take my car back to the dealer and redeem the car wash and detail offer. Looking back, I had made a comment to Doug about the scratch but he told me to use a marker or crayon in order to cover it up. I just find it a bit odd that Doug would not take care of this minor detail himself rather than the perspective buyer which was - me!

I decided to take a drive to Houston, Texas thinking that the trip would help subside the vibration to which it did not! Several days later, I heard a knocking sound coming from the front right tire area of the vehicle whenever I drove over a dip or a bump on the road. Unfortunately, it was one of those issues were the noise happens only on rare occasions. Another concern I had with the vehicle was when I placed the car in reverse, the entire vehicle would vibrate. Along with the knocking noise and the vibration when on reverse, the steering wheel continued to vibrate while on the freeway. On May 4, 2016, I was extremely upset with these issues so I decided to take my car to Fernandez Honda early that day. I spoke with Lupe Lara at the service desk and was told that I would get a call back to let me know what was going on with the car. Meanwhile, I was without a car. Finally Mr. Lara called me back that same evening and told me they test drove the car but couldn’t hear the noise. Lupe also told me that it was normal for the loud vibration sound to be heard when the car is on the reverse gear. He also verified that the tires did indeed have flat spots because the vehicle had been sitting on the parking lot for so long at Gillman Honda and the only solution he gave to me this issue was to take it back to Gillman and get the tires replaced. I was so upset at the fact that I had to take my vehicle back to the dealership and get the tires replaced when it could of easily be done at Fernandez Honda since the car is still under warranty. Most importantly, if Gilman Honda knew in fact that the tires were in bad condition, then why would they sell me a vehicle with bad tires? I was so unsatisfied because I had to wait till the next day to take my car back to Gilman Honda in order to get the tires replaced. Gillman Honda should have of taken cared of it the first place before selling the vehicle!

The next morning on May 5, 2016, I and a family member drove twenty-four miles to Gillman Honda and while I’m driving I noticed the wheel alignment was off due to the car moving on its own to the left. I arrived at Gilman Honda and spoke with Mat Gornall at the service desk about the vibration on the steering wheel when on the freeway, the knocking noise on the front right tire area, and now the alignment. I noticed that Gillman Honda was giving courtesy rides home so I had requested this service and sent my backup ride back home. That same evening, I picked up my vehicle and as I started to drive my car, I was able to notice a major difference with the steering wheel and the front tires that were replaced. However, the back tires were reshaped and remained on the car. My car is still under warranty - why weren’t the rear tires replaced as well? Is this not dangerous to be driving with reshaped tires? Unfortunately the knocking noise on the front right tire area was still there. The alignment problem however was resolved. It is so sad to think that by purchasing a new car, no one would ever think that such problems would exist on a brand new car maybe a used car!

During the second week of May, I noticed a low and high pitched noise coming from the far right side of the A/C vent. It became very annoying to the point that I was not able to listen to the radio at a low setting due to the pitching sound. On May 11, 2016, I took my car once again to Fernandez Honda and addressed the noise of the A/C situation, and the knocking noise on the front right tire area to Mr. Lupe Lara. Once again, I was able to request a shuttle ride back home which was nice. That evening, I got my vehicle back and Mr. Lara advised me that the high pitch noise was normal with all Hondas and that he had checked the other 2015 Honda Civics to be sure. According to Mr. Lara the result of checking the rest of the 2015 Honda Civics on the lot had the same annoying sound. I wasn’t too convinced so I took the car back to Gillman Honda in order to get a second opinion. Once again the knocking noise was heard-again.

On May 18, 2016, I took my car back to Gillman Honda to get a second opinion about the Air Condition issue. However, as I drove to Gillman Honda once again I noticed that the alignment was off again causing the vehicle to move to the left and again the knocking issue on the front right tire area when going on dips. I was not very happy but was able to get a shuttle ride home. When I got my car back, I was told by the mechanic, Jon Beltran, that the motor blower was replaced due to it being defective. I was shocked because Fernandez Honda had said that “it was normal noise” to have! Why would the rest of the 2015 Honda Civics that were deemed normal in reality be a noticeable defect that Fernandez Honda denied to replace? The alignment was properly fixed and as for the knocking noise…Jon told me he couldn’t hear anything but decided to have me drive the vehicle while he was in the passenger side. While driving the car with Jon, he finally heard the knocking noise twice. He stated that he would need my car once again in order to fix the issue; however I needed my car ASAP! I did tell Jon that I would bring it back as soon as I was able to. Why so many issues? Wasn’t this a brand new car?

On May 25, 2016, I took my car again in order to have the knocking noise issue taken care of. Finally the mechanics were able to diagnose the knocking issue and I was so happy and relieved that this would finally be over! I was finally going to enjoy my vehicle the way I should of when I first drove it off the lot to begin with two months ago. I spoke to the service manager John Day who told me that “not all cars are going to be perfect when you buy them”. Is this something your employees are supposed to tell the customers? I was shocked at what John was telling me! Mr. Day and I decided we would both test drive the car in order for him to hear the knocking sound but it was not heard. I also mentioned to him that there was a sloshing sound in the trunk area from the gas moving around in the gas tank whenever came to a complete stop. He told me it’s because Honda decided to have plastic gas tanks instead of metal. Regardless of metal or plastic, I should not be hearing any sloshing noise. Because of this, I requested a rental car in order to do my errands that day. Later on that day, I got a call back from Megan Brown at the service desk saying they had to replace both sway bars on my car. As I am driving my car back home, I heard that same noise once again. I could not believe that I was told the car was fixed. As soon as I got home, I spoke with John Day, the Service Manager. He told me that he didn’t expect me to know much about cars and that offended me tremendously! I asked him what was I suppose to do at this point! He told me that the noise wasn’t dangerous and since I had been complaining about the noise for so long, he would honor the charge of whatever happens in regards to the suspension. I told him that I wanted the “honor charge” in writing but he then tried changing his words around after my request. He also asked me if I could do him a favor by giving a good rating when I take the survey because it will affect the “young lady” which I believe he was referring to Megan Brown at the service desk.

Does Honda company encourage your employees to give good ratings and comments? I am extremely dissatisfied with this Honda experience! The car has not have its first oil change but has already had many parts replaced as if it was an older model car! I feel that I should have been treated fairly and respected whenever I related such issues that I had experienced with the car. I feel that perhaps at this time, I should have been upgraded to a 2016 model rather than keeping the same vehicle to which may or may not pose future problems before the car turns six months! I understand that Honda cannot reimburse me for pain and suffrage for I would have to go to civil court and demand such payment should the judge favor at my side. However, I do feel that Honda should help resolve any future issues with my car should I remain with the 2015 model but it would be nice to get a 2016 model with the same trim and be free of any major/mechanical issues such as those that I have experienced with this 2015 model. I am seeking to be reimbursed for the mileage that I had to put on the vehicle for taking it back and forth to Fernandez Honda and Gillman Honda. I was truly looking forward to a great experience with my 2015 Honda Civic but I never expected to go through such turmoil. After all, Hondas have a better reputation of being solid vehicles! In this case of the 2015 Honda Civic that was sold to me it has been more of a disaster rather than happiness!!!

Not sure why you're posting complaints about a 9th gen Civic on a 10th gen Civic Forum, but sorry about your troubles.

Just curious did you test drive a 2015 mazda 3 to compare to the 15 civic? In my opinion the 15 Mazdas quality and features are way better then the 15 civic. my 2016 civic touring is sitting at a Ford dealer right now with only 5500 miles ready to be sold to an unfortunate buyer.

I do feel your pain. I delt with Honda for 1.5 years with many many issues pertaining to my 16 from a jerky and grinding cvt to rattles throughout the cabin and many more issues and they were almost no help. I wish you luck and hope you can get everything resolved with your civic.
