Of 40 CTR sales, 20 people paid less than $35,600, so half of those 40 buyers paid less than 1k ADM. Conversely, 8 people paid more than 40k, they just probably bought it for what the dealer asked, without preordering. And 11 buyers are distributed between MSRP and 40k, some paid 36k, some 38k, for instance. I'm guessing they negotiated down from a high asking price. One lucky sucker got invoice.

Truecar estimates are not accurate. I tested this few times when buying myself new car and helping others. Truecar is just a marketing tactic bs

Everyone keeps saying that. Do you mean the truecar estimate price?, because that's not what I'm using. Again, the numbers I'm reporting have nothing to do with a truecar estimate. I'm just using the raw data of actual sales, not their estimates. You can come up with your own estimate by looking at the prices in actual sales.

Argue with their estimate, but I don't think individual reported sales are misrepresented.

"TrueCar obtains and processes data from well-known data aggregators within the automotive space to ensure that we present the most accurate pricing information available. We also acquire vehicle configuration data, customer and dealer incentives data, financing and loan data, vehicle registration and insurance data, and much, much more."

"Statistical analysis shows that on the whole, we have 99.1% confidence that our projected Average Paid Price per new car sale in a given week is within $20 of the average price of all nationwide sales transactions during that week."

If Truecar gets data from DMV dealer transaction(sales tax calculations) then yes. They should be accurate.

The lucky sucker that got invoice was probably an owners son.

Even that isn't necessarily accurate because the sales price can be affected by a trade. A dealer will be happy to show on paper they've sold you a Type R for $32,000 if you allow them to give you $5,000 in trade on a vehicle that is worth $15,000.

They'll also be happy to give you $25,000 on paper for a trade that is worth $15,000 if you pay $70,000 for a Type R.

Exactly, my local dealer tried doing this to me when I had the #1 spot. I know they were doing this since they didn't want a signed deposit.

I ended up going with the third dealer I placed a deposit on. Pretty crazy I needed a back up back up to get this car in a couple of weeks.

They don't. They get them from certain participating dealers. They also refuse to show other dealers the data they are given to prove it is accurate. It is total BS and the numbers are so far off for certain models we stopped using them.

You know the guy that bought it at invoice?

Most likely a GM from that dealership.
