Went and saw a black and white one at two separate dealers in the area today. The black one was sold and the white one would have been mine if I didn't tell the Manager I wanted to hold off to see if Red is eventually coming to Canada..
After seeing the white with some day light on it I have concluded that I will go with white if I can't get red. The dealership with the white one has decided to keep it in their showroom until their next allocation. They figure the next one will be in Sep and a third in Dec. I also got to seat in it and I am very happy with the front seats and the room in the back isn't bad for a guy who is 6'1".
Which dealers? My black one is at Dow. White one at ?

Insurance is proving to be the biggest hurdle as the car isn't "listed" yet.

I saw your car at Dow today. I was pretty sure you were the owner based on what I had seen on this forum. They left all the wrap and protective stuff on it like you asked. Its locked up, as it should be with a sold sign in it, and I'm pretty certain it hasn't turned a wheel other than to locate it where it is now. Good call. Very happy for you. Good to see a fellow forum member get one of the first ones. :D
By they way, I was going to ask do you instruct at the Calabogie Track?

The white one is at Hunt Club Honda. I have been the first on their list for some time now but I was crazy enough to decide to hold out to see if red is coming next year . After seeing the white today I am beginning to wonder if I made the right decision. I'm pretty sure I would have pulled the trigger on it today if it wasn't being held for the showroom now.
Nice to see them finally arrive. :) Its been a long wait to see them get to Canada/North America.

It is amazing how much traffic the car is getting. With their lot they don't have to move cars around every day to assure security. I am super-tempted to drive down Bank to see the white one, though ...

As for instructing, I stopped instructing at tracks about twenty years ago. Eventually I'll get the track car running again :drive:- in the meantime, it'll just have to be my avatar.

Still a nice collection of cars you have. Now you get to add the Type R to it! Hopefully we can meet up at the track someday. Once I get my CTR and I get it broke in I plan on heading up for a few nice afternoons.

Yes, these cars are definitely bringing in traffic for the dealers. Im sure thats why Hunt Club is now keeping theirs in the showroom until the next one shows up. Pretty good advertising. Watched a mother walk into the dealership this afternoon and stop dead in her tracks when she saw the car. She knew instantly what the car was. She knew more about it than her teenage son which made me chuckle. She even knew that there were about 1000 coming to Canada.

Long time lurker here!
Finally found a CW type R in MTL after I lost my 1st spot at DOW Honda.

Baldheadracing, if I may ask, when did you pre-order your type R? How did you get the number one spot?

I'm asking because I went to DOW honda in September 2016 looking to make a deposit which they did not take as it was too early for them. They took my name (1st on list) and then in January, I made a deposit (1st in line still), but then one week ago, I was bumbed to third...they said number two made the deposit in September (but back in September...they would not take my money!) and that Number one was in sales working for DOW. I was really really disappointed as I thought I was first in line the whole time...I felt robed!!

Anyways, I got my deposit back today and found one today in Chambly (close to MTL) - #2143
So its all good!

Happy to know that at least, the number one DOW type R is going to an enthusiast!!

Seems like lot of peoples got bump down the line from crappie dealerships, I would hesitate if I would go back there for anything else to do with my car

First of all, glad you found one!

You'll have to excuse me for being a bit wordy, but I want to provide all the context.

Just some background, Dow Honda has provided pace/safety cars and support vehicles for the Ted Powell Memorial races for many years. The first time I drove the pace car, it was a brand new DC2 ITR. I've been in the pace car every year since then, and have known the folks at Dow for almost 20 years.

Around the time that the Mugen Si came out in the USA was the first time that there was some talk about Canada getting a small run of Type R Civics. I told Dow GM way back then that if the Civic Type R ever came to Canada, then I would buy one sight unseen.

All through the 9th gen production, there had been a strong demand for hatchbacks in Canada - but no Civic hatch. There was always the idea floating around of bringing in some hatches, selling in Canada only, and if the market did well, expand to the USA (like was done with the Acura EL). With that, there was the idea of possibly bringing in the CTR floating around. Again, every year I'd tell Dow management that if Type R came, then I wanted one.

When the FK2 CTR finally came out (Mar 2015), it was known to dealers that the next-generation Civic, a.k.a. new CIVIC, a.k.a. CivicX, would have a Type R, and that it would be a world car. When I was told that, I once again I said I would buy one - that would have been in the summer of 2015. I said the same thing in the spring and summer of 2016, and again the day the Paris show opened (Sept 2016).

So I've been #1 for quite a few years ...

Now the thing to note here is I have always been dealing with the GM - not sales, or the sales managers. The sales staff wouldn't have known - and I don't think honestly could even have suspected - that some guy had been telling their GM for years that he wanted a Type R if it ever came. The whole idea of having a list ... the (so far) ultra-limited availability ... these are not things that mass-audience car salespeople regularly deal with - and, for Canadian Honda salespeople, not since the S2000. The whole thing about dealers getting one a month just appeared a few days ago - which my guess would be why you were only told a week ago. Up until then everybody was thinking that a few cars would be coming at launch time - not that we knew definitively what that launch date was.

All that to say that I am so glad that you are getting a car, and am sorry about your experience with Dow. I hope that the wall of text I just wrote gives you some understanding that communications within an organization sometimes just aren't perfect. I'm not someone who works at the dealership; I'm not someone who bumped people off the list because he knows someone; I'm not someone who cut in line. I'm someone who wanted a CTR since EK9 days, and is glad that you're getting one too.

Just because you talked about it, doesn't mean anything. What matters is who put the deposit down first. And it seems like the other guy did. Seems like you are a long time customer and got the friend deal.

Just playing devils advocate.

I totally agree with you, at the moment you put the deposit down you are inline, if you are not position then what the point of putting the deposit for

Thanks you for the Reply!!

I knew is was something like that for spot the number one spot (as you came out of nowhere!! lol) and I understand, but I wish the GM talked to his sales guys (communication is key!!). Like you said, nobody knew how to deal with limited availability. As for the number two spot (now looking at september delivery), I don't know how that deposit showed up weeks before the release, but was apparently made before me...back door deal? ADM?

Like you, I've been waiting for years for my type R! Back when I bought my 1999 Civic SiR (which I still have!!), I could've bought a brand new ITR, but, at that time, I did not have enough money...been thinking about it ever since!!

I was really lucky with yesterday's find!! My girlfriend told me to try to call all the dealership....which I did...and found a white one!!! (they wanted some extra thought; six months financing)

Surprisingly, during my calls, I found a few black ones:

for those looking:
- one black in Cowansville (450-263-1800)
- one black in Gaspé (418-368-5055)
(maybe more available as I only went throught 1/3 of the dealers)

To clarify, I have never bought a car there prior to the CTR and offered to put down a deposit in summer 2015.

I am sorry that Sidreco wasn't told that the car was already promised to me when he visited in September and subsequently was told he was first. That is not a good feeling.

You did your part and you deserve yours...

When I started asking questions, I think that they should've talked to each other (sales, manager, GM)...the GM could've informed sales that he had a guy and got you to make a deposit...even before me, as they refused my deposit in September...

Its the game we play...
