It's a two way street. Honda doesn't want to hurt their relationship with the dealer either. Honda needs the dealers to sell their cars, and the dealer needs Honda to get the inventory.
Blah....what exactly is a Honda dealership going to do...if it doesn't receive hondas?
Dealerships are like cocroaches...if you see ONE....there are like 50 more lurking around.

Article seems exciting at first, but all this only matters to me if

A) The cars actually reach the north american market, and if the past is an indication its unlikely.

B) The variants provide any meaningful difference in performance and features that are more than just some minor tweaks and cosmetics touches.

I get the impression you see that a lot in Japan and Europe all the time, but they are not really significantly more appealing in any way compared to the base model already offered in North American markets.

I will be happy once its confirmed something is going to be released thats worth being excited about.

About the ILX, I wouldnt be surprised if it gets canned entirely. There is no news at all about a new model

A Honda with AWD will almost certainly be called 'Acura.'

And comparisons to the DC2 ITR are difficult. The DC2 ITR was a homologation special that had a lot of hand work. It was also freakin' expensive - in today's dollars thousands more expensive than a CTR, Focus RS, Golf R, etc.
They also only made 500/yr of them. That said, yes, they were priced like cars that today are going for 50-60K. The 97 ITR was only a couple K less than a 1997 Mustang Cobra.

Not necessarily? If they can stuff AWD in a HR-V and CR-V, maybe putting it in a halo car like the R isn't too cost prohibitive.

It would be an image thing

They would give Acura the AWD system because they expect Acura customers to be more willing to pay for it

I agree, I think it'd be an ILS Type R w/ awd and pushing $40k. That would excuse the lower performance.

I hear that, and I also hear the previous comment about maybe a Si-R variant. I know what the R is supposed to be, but I see VWs success with the GTI and it's DSG so I figure that type of setup would open up new markets for Honda. It's been widely reported how the younger generation can't drive stick, so while a fast daily driver that's some type of automatic/DSG/DCT isn't what the R is supposed to be, it could get people interested that might not normally be into such a car.

I can easily see a Honda Accord Type R or TSX -R are next in line .. for now i would enjoy CTR once it comes and save for the next nice Honda ( maybe an old NSX once my son is 6 or older so we can share the ride)

Oh, oh, oh...the phoenix will arise??!?!?!?
It's just one rumor I heard from one dude....but if they really wanted to do a more hardcore version, yellow would be a good color choice...
