EX-L Items for Lower Models

I'm thankful Honda offers the EX-T. I realize I'm in the minority but I prefer heated cloth seats. I also prefer a leather steering wheel/shift knob and auto dimming mirror. Paying the $1500 premium for the EX-L to gain those items wasn't worth it for me. Could care less about a power seat. After some searching I've found you can sort of build your Civic with two of the four EX-L only items, for what I consider a reasonable price.

I'm not sure if it's a glitch in the system or because the Civic is so new but the leather steering wheel is currently listed at the same price as the vinyl one. I paid $87 for mine. Added the shift knob for another $48. Shipped it was $160 for both. I then ordered the auto dimming mirror and mounting kit for $140 shipped. So $300 total. What's nice is that you can a la carte these however you like.

The mirror can be ordered from any place selling the accessories.

Nice I was just looking at price on swapping the steering wheel as well. 2 months and there isn't too any sites that sell the 2016 parts yet. I didn't like the feeling and texture on the non leather steering wheel. Post up info on how it goes.

Is there any way when doing an upgrade to the leather steering wheel to get the heated steering wheel functionality? I have an EX with Sensing and the leather alone isn't worth the trouble of purchase and assembly (DYI is pretty involved on the steering wheel and somewhat risky because you're working around the airbag). It would be much more worth it to me if I could get the heated wheel while I've got the steering area apart.

I plan on doing these DIY. I added a leather shift knob(accessory) and leather steering wheel from a Pilot to my Element. The shift knob should be very easy. The leather knob is the entire unit minus the small black plastic front cover. Pop off the cover and undo the two screws. The steering wheel will be a little more involved but likely not much different than doing the Element. I'll be posting a DIY for the knob and steering wheel fairly soon.

As for the heating element, I'm not aware of a heated steering wheel being available on the Civic. The part number for the leather wheel is the same on the EX-L and Touring. If someone knows otherwise please let me know.

Here's a picture showing how the knob is the whole unit..not just a leather cover. The two screw holes at the bottom are likely all that's needed for the install. Just like my Element.

To the OP - you are not the minority! My perfect Civic is an EX-T (heated cloth seats and the forced induction) and a leather wrapped steering wheel. I can't stand the composite wheel.

I'm the same way about leather vs. cloth seats - leather *sucks* in the summer here in Phoenix with how hot it gets.

Heated steering wheel is NOT available on the Civic. You'd have to get a Honda Pilot top of the line to get heated wheel in the Honda lineup

You should get the Canadian EX-T, heated cloth, turbo and leather steering wheel, no sat radio though.

Thanks for that...I'm not sure how I thought I'd seen it but you're totally right! Heated steering wheel in the leather of the Civic would be a pretty sweet DYI tutorial. If anyone super-skilled would ever make an attempt at that I'd be all ears!

There are several good websites selling the 2016 Civic parts and accessories. I was very surprised to see this as past cars I've owned, the manufacturer makes it difficult to get parts for their newer releases unless it is directly from the dealer parts department. I went through those sites when I bought my spoiler and floormats. Hondapartworld was the cheapest for me since the dealership was located in Washington and shipped them out for $20 and no tax since im in CA. I'm waiting for majestic Honda for the full catalog since hondapartsnetwork shipping is very expensive for me.
