dont get me wrong im not disagreeing that you should always test drive a vehicle before buying. but i am not rich or stupid. unfortunately as of right now we all know dealers will not be handing out test drives for this car. however it is quite literally my job to know everything about these vehicles. granted ive never been inside the type r, overall its pretty similar to the standard civic hatch. if you've ever driven the standard hatch and like it, you will love the r

I noticed that YT video was unlisted. In case it gets taken down here's a mirror of the first 10 minutes: https://streamable.com/3eh69

This won't be good for those in the video. If I found out that was my Type R being driven like that I would be livid.

Kent Komine, listed as the YT channel name. Is Kent the owner of the vehicle or employee?
I looked him up on Facebook. His profile was mostly private, but one of his pictures was the same logo as the YouTube account. Based on his profile picture he was not the driver, but one of the passengers. I highly doubt he is the owner since he's not driving the car, and based on the shirts they are employees.

That sucks, particularly if someone already has a deposit on that car. Unprofessional, but clearly not out of the norm or they wouldn't be so nonchalant about it and post a video.

Unprofessionalism of dealers is amazing. I'm around high-end customer cars a lot and we never take them around for "test drives". I took a new NSX out for a drive once, but that was only AFTER confirming it was ok with the owner AND explaining that I was a major Honda Fanboy AND used to own an old NSX... AND I didn't abuse it or drive it like an idiot.

Not surprised but another reason to REQUEST in your contract no more than 10km.

In fact call me when the delivery truck arrives.

Let's all be real we know what we're buying. These are one of those cars that I can understand if dealerships did not allow test drives.

You better believe I'm going to test drive a 30+K care BEFORE I finally decide if I'm a paying customer or not. If you're slapping down 30K with never driving the car, you're either to rich to care about 30K, or you're an idiot.
Then they simply wont get my money. I'll pass and get another car. I had no issue getting a test drive of an RS when they dropped.
sorry but as it was mentioned already in this thread... this is a car that you KNOW you will buy... this isn't a car you need to "test drive" to see if you want to buy it... dealerships are getting maybe 2-3 for probably the rest of 2017... do you really think that those cars aren't spoken for already? If you're in an area where you can walk in and see a CTR on the lot, then I wouldn't expect that dealer to get more than 1-2 for the rest of this year...

my friend paid almost $40k for the upgraded Golf R and the salesman had to drive it for him with him as a passenger in the car... the first time he drove it was after signing all of the paperwork...

besides, legally the car is NOT under contract until you leave the dealership lot... so if you really feel like "test driving" it, you could just buy it and drive the parking lot and decide to keep it or just return it with nothing affecting you because you technically wouldn't have spent anything but some time to sign papers...

i cannot speak for any dealer but my own. im located in western Wisconsin and there have been several "manager meetings" about this vehicle. basically the way we are handling the type r is nobody, i mean nobody is allowed to drive this vehicle other than the paying customer, and the pdi tech. if anybody else were to joyride the vehicle, guess what they just lost a job. now in this case both of those people happen to be me so im beyond fortunate. and whoever was selected to do the pdi was i not purchasing it would be carefully watched by the manager for a normal test drive. not all dealers are assholes
Same here. Touch the Type R - done. I will sell that car at MSRP and my ADM is that customer comes back after 1000 Miles and lets me ride in it :-D

I'm blown away watching that , just no regard for proper break in. They jump in it , beat it up & then pass it to the customer. Wow.. almost made me sick
