Do I absolutely need it? No.

My last car I pull full Koni yellow based coilovers as replacement suspension, a turbo kit, better tires, etc. definitely didn't need that for daily driving. Wanted it? Absolutely. Better brakes was the next thing on the list, this includes those.

This car is a bridge of sorts between a track car and a daily driver. That's exactly what I am looking for and I like the Honda brand. (I've had 3 so far in 6 years) I almost bought an STI when they did the remodel a few years ago but ended up with my Si instead. Just didn't seem worth it at the time after all the research I did. The R on the other hand seems worth every bit it is asking. Probably just being biased, but my opinion is all I need to be convinced! We'll see how it drives for real shortly!
I want a yellow one like you have it in the picture.

Indeed, in the video that HPJ did at that workshop in Swindon I believe they said they can get to something like 370hp just with a remap without causing problems. If you're prepared to start replacing parts then of course the sky's the limit (in terms of power, cost, and tire wear!).
I think anything near 350 is going to be pretty nice, with 350 being a sweet spot. (WHP) Considering it comes with 306hp here, down to what 265 or so whp? That's over 100 more on a tune if your 370 is right. Pretty nice if that's the case, wonder if the stock clutch can handle the power/tq boost at that point.

All of the above plus - great seats and rev-matching. Only downside is we'd have to buy a set of all-seasons or winter tires ASAP - the window sticker cautions against driving in ice or snow with the OEM tires.
Only the Demon is worse - they literally fall apart below 32 degrees F. The CTR tires just have no grip when cold: below 52 degrees F.

In not too long, I'll be able to provide some good feedback on the comparison. My fiancé should be taking delivery of her 17 SI this week (I'll actually be picking it up for her, and spend a good week with it ;)), and I have a deposit on a '17 type R (not one of the first round:cry:). I'll be able to spend a lot of time in both. I currently own a 9th SI and I love it, but the R I think is going to be on a whole different level. Can't wait to find out.

the look of it..... the Si looks horrible IMHO...
The pictures of the SI do not do it justice. I am defintely getting the Type R but I went ahead and test drove an SI this weekend and in person I have to say it looks much better. The pictures make it look terrible. Still, the clutch on it was so light-absolutely no feedback. My 2013 Si had more feedback.

Same reason why I got an STi instead of WRX.

If I buy the Si, I might regret not getting the R. If I get the R, I highly doubt I'd regret not getting the Si.

Plus I track it, so all the supporting goodies (brakes, suspension, etc.) is well worth the premium.

But more importantly, the CTR has been forbidden fruit here in the US, whereas the Si has always been available (save for a few years) and are a dime a dozen around these parts.

100+ more HP, 100+ more TQ, VTEC, Better seats, (3) driving modes, Brembo brakes, hatchback, stiffer chassis, 20" wheels, better tires, 2.0L -vs- 1.5L, better shifter/transmission, beefier LSD, LED's all around (etc, etc, etc) and it's the first CTR ever in the US. Legendary. I've had (2) previous Si's and they were great, but I felt the need to modify them to make them perform where I wanted. The Si is an awesome daily driver with a lot for not much $, but the chance to own a CTR with everything I just mentioned is a can't miss opportunity. $10,000+ is a lot of money, but well worth it, if you can swing it.

Cool, then it should be able to match MB's specific output from their 2-liter turbo engine.

What's the difference between Lancer AWD vs Evolution X? Or a base Mustang vs a GT350R?

The answer you're looking for is driving feel. To achieve this "feel" a lot of engineering and cost are involved. Stronger brakes, higher end bushings, track tuned suspension, Engineered powertrain, chassis balance, suspension geometry and etc. The purpose of the type R is fun to drive and fast.

Their are people whom doesn't care for performance cars hence they like their Prius.
That's why I don't know if I'll part with the S2000 when I get the CTR. It's pretty weak on power but this car is the epitome of visceral driving feel - 9,000-rpm screaming to redline with the classic VTEC kick, eagerness to turn in, quick reflexes, being able to kick the tail out and powerslide when you want to which you can't do in the CTR, perfect driving position like putting on the perfect pair of jeans, go-kart for the road. The CTR should murder it in regards to outright performance, but I doubt even the CTR can replicate all of the S2000's driving attributes.

I feel the same as others here in that I've been a Honda enthusiast for a long time. I wouldn't give up my current 370Z (or my previous E46 M3) for an Si, but would give them up in a heartbeat for a CTR.
I drove a 370z right after driving a 2017 Si and no comparison. 370z is soo awesome. Wouldn't ever work for me because of the two seats but man what a cool car and funn:)

I can't say that I would give up my 370Z for the CTR, but my Sport Hatch can certainly be replaced. Having the 370Z makes me question if I should/need to buy the CTR. I have the sports car already and having a very good daily driver in the Sport, I get lots of blank stares when people ask why I am looking at the CTR.

Life is full of tough decisions and life is indeed short. Live it!

For me, I've always been around Honda cars (my family owned them growing up, and I've owned a few myself). Made it through college in an old '88 Prelude (that I still own, thankfully); Currently drive a '14 Si (that I love); Always wished that the Type-R would make its way over to the States. So when they announced it, it was a pretty easy decision for me. :]
