Interesting... did not know Honda used magnetic dampers.

Motor1.com just released the pricing on the new WRX as wel, looking at $28k to start. Fuck that shit. The benefits of an LSD are not exclusive to a track setting. An LSD helps with the inherit dynamic weaknesses of a performance oriented front wheel drive car. If you're enjoying a brisk drive on some twisty back roads, or having fun on your favourite on ramp, the LSD will help transfer available power for you to mitigate the effects of torque steer and traction issues. Something simple like making a right turn at a red light, the LSD will help your car put the power down out of the corner more efficiently letting you enjoy stronger acceleration than a standard FWD set up. You don't have to be going at extra legal speeds to experience those benefits, and there are even times when it can help you out in the snow or rainy situations with more limited traction. You can extract much more from a FWD system. An LSD is not necessary to have fun, but it's not something to easily dismiss like it will barely ever get used. If you enjoy taking corners, an LSD will be a definite asset.
Even if you disregard the LSD you have the enhanced brakes, dual mode suspension, thicker sway bars, revised chassis set up, better steering and more aggressive throttle mapping in sport mode to consider. Those are the items just off the top of my head that go beyond the simple power boost the Si provides. There's more to the car than the boost pressure and simply upgrading the power of an EXT might help somewhat in one part of the Si equation...but there is much more to it then that.
So if you look to the GTI for comparison, you'd have to go from an apples to apples stand point and compare MSRPs and not "what you could get". In Canada, the base GTI right now, without LSD will be roughly 5k more. If you add the performance pack it'll be about 8k more in the end. The difference may not be as wide in the US but it would still be more than a grand or 2(maybe closer to a minimum of 3k?).
Regardless MSRP to MSRP the Si will be cheaper. And it is too early to declare the GTI a "much more capable" car until we get some reviews and comparisons coming in. The GTI should dominate in straight line speed, but by how much? The Si is down 60+ torque and 15hp. But it also weighs about 125 pounds less. That is not a whole lot lighter, but if the power delivery is good it shouldn't get completely embarrassed. That's just a guess though so again we'll have to see. Either way straight line is only one aspect of the car. The handling/cornering, braking, dynamic transitions could be on par or superior due to the factors I mentioned earlier. If a capable car was only measured by straight line speed the miata would have been dead long ago. I'm reserving my judgement for a test drive and some reviews but the Si is a good package on paper. The power and engine are disappointing for sure, but the other elements are excellent and that could add up to a very compelling package when taken as a whole. I don't think my mom's EX with a nice bump in HP would provide me the same satisfaction.
Seeing as you get AWD, and a much more powerful engine. 28K isn't surprising when Sentra Nismo and Si are 24-25k starting.Motor1.com just released the pricing on the new WRX as wel, looking at $28k to start. Fuck that shit.
This is true.Seeing as you get AWD, and a much more powerful engine. 28K isn't surprising when Sentra Nismo and Si are 24-25k starting.
Apples and Oranges. You can compare a stripped down Impreza to an SI that basically comes fully optioned. Even with the current Impreza you have to go to the Premium($29k) or even the Limited which is over $30k just to get the Dual port USB. When comparably equipped, they are not even close in price.Seeing as you get AWD, and a much more powerful engine. 28K isn't surprising when Sentra Nismo and Si are 24-25k starting.
To be frank they are really not that close in performance either.Apples and Oranges. You can compare a stripped down Impreza to an SI that basically comes fully optioned. and based on the sales training docs, this seems to be the approach Honda is using with the Si...they are going to skirt around the power numbers, and REALLY play up the standard equipment and suspension/chassis/drivetrain components of the Si when compared to it's competitionApples and Oranges. No it's not. Honda's own documentation compares the Si to the WRX.Apples and Oranges.
Well, I never made any performance claims.....soTo be frank they are really not that close in performance either.
What Honda documentation are you referring to? Link? Race? How old are you? lolNo it's not. Honda's own documentation compares the Si to the WRX.
What's going to be your excuse when you lose a race? I lost by 2 cars but damn it, I have a 2nd USB port? Most the people looking at the Si are looking because of the performance aspect. That's WHY it exists. Why the hell would I care if my car has 2 USB ports or not?
Really? If you want to win street races and all you care about is performance, just go buy something like a used 370Z for 20k, and drop 3k in upgrades. You'll beat 98% cars on the road easily, and have spent less than what any new sport compact costs. And the Z is fairly reliable to boot.No it's not. Honda's own documentation compares the Si to the WRX.

No, just saying that the numbers may be skewed a little. You guys are missing the point.
Have you not seen the huge thread about the Honda PDF's?Well, I never made any performance claims.....so
What Honda documentation are you referring to?\
Lets take a little reality break shall we? Here is a partial result from my second AutoCross. I finished toward the middle of all the cars there. And I'm a noob.No it's not. Honda's own documentation compares the Si to the WRX.

You said "Hondas own documentation" directly compares the Si and WRX. I asked for a link so I can see/read it. You answered my question with a question.... lol. Link please....to the Official Honda literature that takes a direct shot at its competitor and compares the SI and WRX.Have you not seen the huge thread about the Honda PDF's?
