Just like any car if you actually use it. If you time capsule it though for 20+ years I bet it will start appreciating. I've seen a 2000 ITR sell for over 30k on EBay with less than 1000miles a few years ago.
24k to 30k in 20 years is a really poor rate of return.

It's better not to think about the appreciation and just enjoy the car. My enjoyment is worth way more than 6k over 20 years.

agreed,
what I was simply trying to say is if you can afford it, why buy something that is readily available?
obviously the 918 was excluded from my post above...the 911 and 911R on the other hand is a very good comparison...

standard 911S and the 911R, for example. The delta for those car are along the lines of 911R is roughly 50% more $$$ (maybe 911S asking around $130k and 911R selling for $225k when new). now the 911R is trading for around $500k. in one year, it doubled in price. this is pretty much the same as an SI vs. CTR. (btw, I can't afford a Porsche so the above numbers are remembering from reading magazines, not actually buying Porsches :D)

now a CTR and a Porsche Cayman is a whole different story...you go buy a brand new Cayman and drive it off the lot...do you know how much $$$ you will loose just by driving it off the lot?? you see what i'm trying to say? you buy a Cayman and you will probably loose $$$$$$ if you need to sell quick, but if it's a CTR, then you stand a better chance of breaking even, or maybe even making a few bucks.

That's all I'm say...
I agree. Any car is worth what someone is willing to pay. I won't pay 500K for a 911R, as it is not worth it to me. Just as I won't pay over 40K for the CTR, because again, not worth it to me.

Mine would be like "Ok, move over, it's my turn!"
Or, following, in a different car, driving the same speed....
Need to find me a woman like this lol :spaz::beer:

It's happened twice so far, but when referring to the Porsche Cayman, when you say CTR do you mean the GT4 or are you comparing it to lé Type R?

Are these type r's numbered with anything special indicating it's numerical birth out the factory?
They do have a number plaque, but from what I've heard it's random and not chronologically assigned. Some dude in the UK ended up with a black edition FK2 (only 100 made) with a number plaque in the 400's.

Possibly to avoid the "2017 Type R, Car #001 for sale...$100K.."

EDIT: I think Honda wants us to use/drive these...not meant to use as a means of making money/profit(other than maybe sponsored Racing)

I can't believe I didn't think of this.. The uproar from the FK2 guys is pretty intense, understandably so, but maybe Honda is thinking ahead and doing the right thing.. That $100k is better served going to an NSX than to perceived collectors value.

It took me a very long time to realize this. Won't be making the same mistake with this car as life's just too short. Although, I did mention to my wife no eating in the car the other day......what can I say, old habits die hard :banghead:

Save up, sell our condo at a good price, level up at work.. yeah, I've been given the green light to trade in my Sport Touring towards a Type-R.

The driveway would go from Civic + CR-V to CTR + Acura RDX (most likely).

I'd really want to drive it back to back with the Golf R and Focus RS. My only concern is the lack of AWD in Chicagoland... and possible torque steer. I still remember the FWD Eagle Talon Tsi Turbo - holy torque steer, Batman!

Honda has numbed the steering down for torque steer with the dual axis front end, you won't feel it tug like the old cars.

"Numbed" may not be the right word - "...has designed a better front wheel drive and steering system along with a proper LSD to better manage torque steer..."

So I wanted to bump this thread given all the talk about how hard these are going to be to get. There are only about 120 people posting which color they want. There are fewer on this post saying they're actually buying one. I know not every Type R fan is hanging out on CivicX but Temple of VTEC seems to have even less interest. I do personally know some Type R buyers that have deposits and are not on this forum (old guys like me), but exactly how many of us are actually going to buy one of these? I think the car is awesome and I know the dealers have lists 10 deep of people with interest but how many of us have actually put down a deposit? How many are for sure buying?

I personally haven't put down a deposit because in my mind I have multiple sources I'm trying to use to get one... but in reality I'm really just unrealistically optimistic that one will land in my lap even though I know that isn't going to happen. I'm resigned to waiting months for one, but I'm really not sure this car is going to be like the RS.

I do think demand will be red hot when it launches, but how quickly until that fades? The styling is pretty polarizing. I don't think there are a lot of non-hardcore Honda fans thinking about getting one, particularly given the loud styling. I work with all car nuts and not one besides me wants one and everyone thinks I'm nuts even though they all know how bad ass it is. They just can't get over the styling... even the young guys. My 8 yr old son loves it. My wife, daughter, friends, neighbors, coworkers, etc. all think it looks childish and keep telling me to just buy a Porsche.

Anyway, all the talk about paying $10K over MSRP and crap like that got me thinking about this. No way in my mind is the fever for this car going to last beyond a few months. I wonder if the hype is real or are we just hyping each other up and making it all worse for each other.

Amen@! I'm 43. I'm getting one as well. Growing up in the nineties, I grew up on imports. I don't care what anyone thinks, its definitely my cup of tea. ;)
