Took my 2016 Civic in for the A12 service today per the maintenance minder. I'm at about 30,000 miles. The dealer says that as part of A12 and B12 Honda recommends that all of the brakes and calipers be disassembled for inspection and greasing in addition to what is listed in the schedule. Is this normal? I declined since my factory brake pads aren't even halfway worn.

My Honda dealership never did that for my 2007 Civic, even though I had over 200K miles. And I don't think anything has changed as far as brakes go. However, I also have an Acura, and they recommended it at 70K miles, which I did because it was my wife's car and didn't want any problems.

By "Honda recommends" they mean their stealership recommends.

I'm approaching my 30k A1 service, too. If nothing feels wrong, I'd pass.

Yeah, I couldn't imagine needing to dismantle the brakes at this point.

If you question anything, ask them to point it out in the manual where it shows this. (They were lieing BTW)
Service code A12
A - Replace engine oil
1- Rotate Tires
2 -Replace air cleaner element
Replace dust and pollen filter
Inspect drive belt

Yeah I pointed to this on my phone and they showed me a page of theirs that was typed out saying different. Either way it sounded ridiculous.

Wonder how many times they used a line like, "If you don't get this done, then your warranty is void".........

My dealer recently came up with a service package for minder item "B" which is "Engine Oil & Filter change with Honda Inspection" for $164.95. The individual item that includes oil and filter change is only $39.95, which is what I have been paying for minder item "B" for years. I guess it's a strategy to increase revenue since a lot of people will just pay whatever the dealer says the car needs. The last time I went in for minder B the service adviser point to some piece of paper listing this new $164.95 item. Luckily I had scheduled the service through the app and it was already showing the lower price so she stopped pushing. In the future I probably will just schedule the individual items the minder calls for and not even mention the minder code to the service adviser.

Yeah my dealer pointed to a piece of paper that included the extra services. When I got the invoice, it noted that customer refused what they were calling standard service.

A12 minder alert came on for my CivicX.

But I'm at 40 percent oil life -- why would I replace engine oil?

Because the oil change is every 12 months or when oil health estimated by the computer as low (whichever comes first)?
So even if your oil is still healthy but you had it changed 12 months ago - you will still be reminded to have your service done with oil change.

I had my oil changed recently.

Bought the car in July and I've had two oil changes.

My last oil change had the 0 1 9 indicated. I paid to have the brake service completed even though the car only had about 34,000 KMs. It's good to take the brakes apart and lube up the pins. Most people don't do it at all and just accept they will have to do corrective maintenance whenever the problem occurs. With our Winters, I think doing the brakes in the spring is a good idea.
