The interesting thing today was finding out how well (or not) the infotainment system read my entire iTunes library loaded as-is onto a USB thumb drive. I went into ~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/, found the Music folder, and copied it onto the USB stick. Then I plugged it into the data port below the cupholders.

It's ALL THERE, available to play on the infotainment system. That's cool. But.. navigating the library SUCKS. Reminds me of mp3 players from 2001. The structure has no XML file to help with playlists, so you basically go through every album (Artist/Album/) -- but it's not clear how you go into and out of viewing Songs.

Side effect: the infotainment system's OS starts to struggle when it's tasked with addressing my 38 gigs of music files. I had to reboot it after plugging in the stick. It mostly ran okay later, but the music "app" lost its ability to navigate files after a while, too.
When you're in a music folder you can select that folder and see al the available music folders. Just swipe or scroll to select another. You can also use the menu button for selecting.

I'm currently using a 16GB USB thumb drive but I'm thinking of byuing a 128GB.

Changed the wallpaper and clock backgrounds again.

I don't think the voice interface will do any good, and it's really not usable while driving, either. Just find the album or artist you want to play and let it run.

I may whittle down the collection on the stick to get it down to a few favorite driving albums.

Was this the USB thumb drive in the center arm console or the one to sync the phone ? I haven't tried using a thumb drive yet, I've just been streaming music. The infotainment system though is pretty underpowered and probably equivalent to a tablet from 2012. In fact the android version they are using is actually from around 2013ish.

Do you leave the thumb drive in and read off of it or copy the music ? Is there a build in music player ?

It's in the center arm console, below where the cupholder slides forward. I could get one of those low-profile USB drives, too, which wouldn't get hit by anything I store down there.

Under Source for the audio system, you can choose USB, so that's what I tapped/clicked. It'll show the folders on the main screen and also on the instrument cluster.

What I don't like is, there's no "back", or "directory level up", or "go back a folder" button. There's "Select", of course, but I haven't figured out when it selects a song to play or goes up a directory level.

It's a reminder of how much the iPod interface kicked everyone's ass in late 2001. ;) It desperately needs a scroll wheel or a rethink of how it navigates the structure. Right now, as I repeatedly click the control pad Up or Down, it goes to every single album. It would be better if it went by Artist instead, then click Select on an Artist to drill down to the artist's Albums (if that makes sense).

TO BE FAIR, though, I don't think they planned it for someone to dump a few hundred albums onto a USB drive. It'd work a lot better with a small handful instead.

I already posted this a couple posts earlier.

When you're already in the folder, just tap the folder on the current screen and then you see all the folders available. Then you can swipe or just scroll on the right with up and down.
I have over 100 folders and they're easy selectable.

I kept trying the instrument cluster to navigate. I'll try the main screen in the morning.

It only works on the main screen. I'll add a picture of mine to make it more understandable.

Where you see "101 The Greatest Switch 2010" on the screen, just tap that specific area or folder icon. After that you see all the folders where you can scroll from.
Same way for the songs in that folder but just tap the song instead.

^^^ Can you scan by Artist instead?

(not sure what I'm seeing; which one is the song, which is the artist, etc?)

The obsession with red accessories is hilarious to me. Just my two cents. If it's not an Si or CTR, I think red is dead
No their better then the SI
