It's all in how you drive. I'm 225lbs and I'm competitive, but if you compete the classes are based on the total weight of the kart not the driver. My son is 105lbs but we have to add like 50lbs of weight to the kart so he's able to compete.

To keep it relevant to the R.. I was considering the idea of adding a Type R as a "fun" car, but I would've liked to see more horsepower and possibly AWD. (basically a RS/STi/Golf R competitor) but as is I think I'll pass and add a GT-R in the future.
Honda knows that light weight gives a feel you can't duplicate with power and AWD. It's easy to make a fast heavy car, but how many sub 3000 lb 300hp cars are there?

The one thing I will add, is that those of us in the US will probably never see one, unless we are in good with our dealers. My understanding is that only 1000 are coming to the US. I know my dealer said they are getting 2 and they are both spoken for. I imagine most dealers are the same way. Happy hunting when they do show up.

I am surprised at that price tag no one mentioned a WRX/STi. Its all wheel drive, the platform has way too many aftermarket performance parts. The resale value of WRX is really high. I mean i love the CTR its aesthetically pleasing possibly a wrx killer but the price tag is killing it. Also this is a fairly new limited platform so not a lot of companies will dedicate R&D for performance aftermarket parts pretty much like every other civic. So whats the point. I understand its a complete car but I am sure at one point or another one would want to modify it.

There certainly shouldn't be any regret, because its really a different vehicle in a different class. My EX-T had a sale price around $20k. Good luck getting a Type R even AT MSRP so I bet you're looking at $40k+.

If I've got $40k to spend on a car, it's not going to a factory tuner car unless I'm buying it for speculation (which is always a bad idea). I'm sure you could get a nice used Vette for that.

I could imagine the insurance on the CTR to be drastically higher than its normal counterparts (Sedan/HB/Coupe). I mean the car is literally marketed as a track/performance car; insurance will go "but that's a track-spec car. WE SCARED YOO CRASH OK WE RAISE PRICE". Then there's the part where if insurance sees red seats, they charge a premium; "red seats huh???well your vehicle might get stolen more. WE RAISE PRICE OK!." Then there's the 20" wheels. Then there's the triple exhaust.

The CTR is like the perfect cow for insurance to milk on, lol.

I admit, the CTR looks great. The hood and the front bumper would be a nice sweet to my sedan, as well as a diffuser and quad-exhaust in the back to mine. A re-flash & intake and all the other cosmetic mods to my sedan will make it just as enough. I'm a daily driver who at times likes to push the limits of the car but the CTR is too much. I'm not going to bother spending the time to meet a bunch of crooks at Honda just because they see this as a goldmine of a car to mark up.

If I'm going to buy a car, I'd rather buy v6 Accord Coupe lol.

Being an underwriter for USAA people look at the way insurance companies rate for cars the wrong way.
Yes performance is something they look at but only a small piece.
This will be rated as a hatchback and like other hatchbacks in its class.
They rate mainly on
How much damage is this likely to do to other property
How likely is this vehicles shape going to cause a casualty if striking a pedestrian.
The cost it will be to fix this vehicle, it will share a lot of similar parts as other civic(world wide platform)
For example a Honda Civic SI is rated exactly the same as a Honda civic EX-l, Size, shape, safety features are all the same.

When quoting insurance for the Type R, quote a Civic Sport Touring for fare comparison. Should be within 5-10$

A grey import IX gen TypeR costs around 100K USD here, not really in the same price range as a normal Civic! No idea if they are going to officially import the new one, but it will get around 40% of taxes so it's not an easy purchase anyway

Just got a sport touring hatch not long ago. I wanted an automatic, so no, the CTR wouldn't have worked. I would have if it came with a dct type transmission.

Will not be getting one, type-r is a track car and I barely go to the track these days. I am showing my age but it will be like any type-r, loud, uncomfortable and you need to squeeze every bit out of that engine to go fast.

I know there is a lot of fascination in the US for the R because it has been a long time since the integra Type-R. But really, don't be surprised if a mustang GT burns you at the stop light because that is not what type R is about. It will run mid 13's quarter.

I'll buy the R if I have at least a million in the bank just so I can either trash it or put it in a big display case and hope it will double its worth. Does anyone know if they are going to limit production?

I certainly regret about my purchase that I should have just waited for another months and get a Type R. I really like Hatchback body style but there is absolutely not enough power for me (forgive me my last car is Focus RS), and also the maximum G is certainly lower than my Focus RS, also the brakes on hatchback sport touring is really bad. I want to make sure everyone know that I am serious, I don't know how many times after I finish driving some mountain road and realize my brakes are really faded. If the depreciation of my car is less than $5000 I will for sure trade that baby in for a Type R, if the depreciation is something that I cannot handle, I am happy to get hondata flashed, cusco enforcement bar, and big brake kits, and I will slap myself on my face every single morning to let myself know how stupid I am. Should have waited.

I still don't get the number of people that are claiming that they are going to get one. Are you guys serious or just joking? This guy is going to be in such limited quantity that I couldn't imagine many people are actually going to get their hands on one.

I seriously need a CTR, or I need a new hatchback every two years.... Blame how I drive,
