Maybe I'm a bit more hardcore than most, but I like my street cars to trap at least 130mph.

Yes, 500whp is where I'm guesstimating I'd be happy with (ie. no more urge to mod it out). I used to DD my '98 hatch with 430whp (with another ~100whp available from the bottle) and it was great. The only problem is that one becomes accustomed (or addicted) to that sort of power:weight ratio and nearly everything else seems sluggish. Then again I'm probably an edge case when it comes to this sort of thing.
Not many production cars trap 130. That's high 10 second low 11 second range in the 1/4. You might want to shop for a V10 Viper rather than a 1.5L Civic.

Hyundai Elantra sport 2017= 201hp 195 lb ft torque vs Civic SI 2017= Unknown hp 192 lb ft torque (less than elantra).

So,

Elantra sport 2017
  • More torque
  • More elegant (not boy racer look like si)
  • Probably faster
  • cheaper
  • better warranty package
  • Four door (unlike SI)
  • DCT and manual option (DCT is much faster than manual and SI doesnt have a DCT option)
  • Bigger infotainment screen
  • Better reliability based off consumer reports (honda civic got averaging worst in class)
Why buy a SI lol?

Your comment made me go check out the Elantra Sport online.......Nice to see they finally gave the sport edition a multi link rear suspension. But wow, that interior is nice, love the steering wheel. My goodness they have come a long way. Definitely worth a consideration. Both interior and exterior is classy and better than Honda. Nice that they offer such an upscale interior (Leather, Nav, sunroof and more with a manual no less) Wish the Si offered leather.

Are you talking about the Type R?

We are talking about the Si.
Whoops, forgot which thread I was looking at! I wasn't the one who brought up the Type R, I just continued to derail the conversation. Sorry about that.

This is the car I was waiting on, but my Insurance company only gave me so many days to find a car. Overall I am happy with my hatch, but you are right, that Elantra Sport does give you WAY more for your money. Especially, if you are like me and drive a car till the wheels fall off.

Clearly beauty is in the eye of the beholder, because the Elantra looks dull and uninspired. A bit like Toyota copied Ford's homework.

The interior looks busy, and not as intuitive as the Honda, which has been my experience when driving Hyundai as rentals. Not all of which are stripped down econobox models, btw. I'd call it functional but distracting.

I get what you are saying, but remember, Honda's awful, needs to be recalled, infotainment system.... it leaves much to be desired. The Elantra, a bit boring....yes, but I like the interior much more and the fact it has Apple Carplay and android auto is a nice plus. Also you can get the Elantra for $20k sticker at the dealer. The markdowns are already in place here in Baton Rouge.....

I don't see how it gives you more for the money at least at MSRP, they are pretty equal in price to a CivicX. Granted you can usually walk into a Hyundai dealer and easily get 10% off of MSRP and maybe up to 25% off at a year end event. I do like the understated styling, but it looks like a ten year old car right now. They basically cloned the outgoing Ford Fusion styling. As for performance I highly doubt the 200hp compares to a 200hp Honda. Hyundai models always underperform by about 10-20% of their stated HP ratings, and this car is 200lbs heavier than a CivicX. It will keep up with a 2.0lx and get smoked by an EX-T let alone an SI, all while getting significantly poorer MPG's. The Civic gets better city mileage than the Elantra gets on the highway.

True. Even the 4G63 or 4G64 powered Hyundais were detuned to 250.

I have a civic lx and driven the elantra sport , 1.5 cvt and in manual. I don't see where you get your facts from. EXT smoke the elantra sport? I don't think so. The sport would also smoke my lx. Its a lot more fun of a car then the EXT civic. I used to have a 14 Si and the sport is well a head of that car. The Civic Si has some competition with the sport for sure.

Dyno results for Elantra sport 2017:

I have a friend who has it and he has got 6.2sec 0-100km/h. Which is much faster than Honda EXT 2016 or 2017. It well documented that the 0-60 times are around 6.1-6.3 for the Elantra. I dont know where you are getting your facts...

I am glad to provide you members with an impartial comparison between the Civic and competitors. In my books, the Elantra has stepped up their game and made a really great car (which a lot of reviews are praising). They give you more bang for your buck, good on insurance, and decent on gas given the power they output. If I wasn't waiting for a tesla model 3 (which will wreck the SI and Type R and will be affordable and maybe the same cost as SI after tax rebate), I would of bought this car over the civic 20 times over. I look at a cost/benefit of a product regardless of what is it and the Elantra sport is the better buy overall and in all aspects but maybe fuel consumption and speed (related to SI and type R only..the other civic models, it has it beat).

Well documented where? There are no current road test results that I can find for the car as it just came out and no one has published a full road test yet. That Dyno sheet looks great, but there are tons of dyno's of 1.5t's showing high numbers as well. Some are showing 200whp on 91 octane and no tune, others showing 147ish, it all depends on the dyno.

I did accidentally leave out the probably in that sentence. The fact is that we don't know yet. There is basically zero test data on the Elantra Sport. They themselves however only claim an 8 second 0-60, so maybe they are being super conservative. But I am basing my pre-evidence opinion on that.

There is alot of videos on YouTube with these cars also known as elantra sr. The car is faster then any 10 gen civic. I've driven one and it's great. I still like the 10 gen civic for sure

Yeah nice try! Anyone who says they are being "fair and impartial" then compares the Elantra SPORT with a Civic EX is full of it. Really you should be comparing apples to apples. You're comparing the Hyundai's answer to the Si model with Honda's EX-t.

Should be like this:

Hyundai SE/VE (147hp/132ftlb) = Honda LX/EX (158hp/138ftlb)

Hyundai Eco 1-4Turbo (128hp/156ftlb) = Honda EXT/EXL (174hp/167ftlb)

Hyundai Limited (147hp/132ftlb) = Honda Touring (174hp/162ftlb)

Hyndai Sport (201hp/195ftlb) = Honda Civic Si (???/192ftlb)

Hyundai "N" line = Honda Civic Type R (306hp/295ftlb)

The way I see it, I love competition and it makes Honda be better, but Hyundai still has some big shoes to fill and I think when we finally see some official comparisons/reviews and instrument test results we'll see that. The Civic Hatchback Sport is already getting tons of positive press and it's not even in Si form.
