Just brought my Sport home yesterday. It DOES have a volume knob. :)
Besides getting used to getting in and out of it (I went from a Dodge Ram to this and now instead of climbing up, I am climbing down and in) I love how comfortable and easy to drive this car is.
You are going to love the MPG compared to the Ram. I found myself adjusting the cabin temperature for a while with that dial. ;) Since Honda added a volume dial in the new CRV, I am not surprised adding one is being talked about for the Civic's mid-cycle update.

The idea of a wheel-only volume knob is not a terrible one -- but the execution was poor: I would prefer just the up/down buttons without the thumb-scroll, which I sometime touch by mistake.

I believe you can turn off the touch-scroll, and just use it as hard buttons. It's buried in the settings somewhere.

New Civic owners .. Any good stuff you can share that the guys behind you should know about?

What are the biggest surprises (positive) and disappointments so far?
First of all I love my new Civic. As with any new generation there are small issues but overall power and mpg are excellent. I purchased a 2016 touring back in October. I commute 40 miles from sea level to 1400 vertical feet and back to 0 twice a day. This is a good test for the cornering and power thanks to the sharp corners.
Here are some of the positives:
1) the fresh look of the body
2) I love the brake hold which helps out when in rush hour traffic and stuck at stop lights.
3) Auto door lock is a nice option as well as the remote start.
4) Seat is comfortable but needs lumbar support to make it a 10.
5) Sound system is good at higher volumes.
6) Steering wheel is comfortable and functions are convenient.
Here are some of the negatives:
1) apple carplay needs access to more apps
2) No garage door opener? So cheap without one.
3) No sunglass holder compartment
4) Armrest is terrible engineering. Cloth is no good at all so I got the leather which is better comfort but not well thought out as far as elbow sitting in cup holder or funtionality of the compartment.
5) lane mitigation is useless and tries to stear me out of my lane more then helping.
Overall happy with my choice and enjoy driving the civic for the power, soft gas peddle, economy and hopefully reliability.
Happy cruising.

Good summary. One disadvantage of brake hold is that it disables hill assist, which is useful at all times (and not only on hills), as it gives a bit of gas automatically when you take your foot off the brake. I believe the access to apps in CarPlay is controlled by Apple, not Honda. And ya, coming from the Accord, I do miss homelink and the sunglass holder!

I store my sunglasses on the little shelf near the main USB port. Easy enough to reach while driving, and the rubber pad keeps them from sliding away on turns.

I'm glad I discovered how to turn off the volume slider. I long ago gave up trying to slide my thumb, because I usually only want to go up or down 2-3 clicks, and it's hard to gauge that without watching the numbers on the display, i.e. taking my eyes off the road. Instead, I just use the top or bottom buttons. But now that I've turned off the slider entirely, it's even easier to press up or down without accidentally sliding.

I never used slide down to mute either, because it would only take the volume down to zero instead of pausing the audio. The "power" button does that, but lately for me the audio will start up again on its own a few seconds later.

Disappointments:

Rain Sensing Wipers (They suck in Canadian Winters)
Noisy Stock tires (Firestone FT140)
The Engine constant high revving with a CVT (First time ownership of a CVT)
Intermittent problem with Centre door lock/unlock, sometimes need to use the remote to unlock/lock doors.
Subwoofer Rattle (Honda won't do shit about it)
My wife doesn't love it or hate it, just meh.

Pros:
It's a Honda built in Canada for Canadians
I would of not buy anything else in the current compact car category, best value for money.

After 37k miles, my love for the car has turned to loathing. NVH is atrocious, more visits to the dealer than my Audi (didn't expect that). Car will be sold at some point this year.
I feel that, I traded mine at 19k, got sick and tired of taking in to the dealership and having to fight with them and them fight with Honda just to get ONE thing fixed.
First 6 months she was a dream, after that was all downhill. I see them on the streets since the trade and not even one twinge of guilt. I will never be an early adopter aka beta tester, again, not for Honda not for anyone, not unless they are paying ME, not me paying them.
Very happy with my CRV now, a proven platform with zero issues. And I can drive over the snow instead of shovel it, bonus!

I lucked out. It seems like the 2016 honda civics were plagued with issues. Most of the things I have read here I don't have. Mine was made 1/2017

I bought my Prius the first year it was designed Gen 3. Had engine issues only for that year. Never buy the first year design again

Still haven't put 1000 mi. on mine yet but... so far I am still loving it! Minor issues, when it falls below 40deg. F. I get a squeak in the left, top dash. Also found two fit and finish issues, first is the driver side corner of the hood does not line up perfectly with the body metal, and the driver side door control panel section is not snug up against door panel. And that is all I could find so far.

My 2016 hasn't had any issues whatsoever. Even the parking brake works every time under all circumstances. Didn't do any software update. Got a real volume knob. I also had a Prius but the very first one 2001 and never had a bit of trouble for 15 years until the AC developed an incurable porosity.

Same. I had to get the amp replaced but no complaints other than that. My fav feature is the service intervals. I'm at 21000 km and still have 40% oil life till my next service.

My 16 blew its tranny a few weeks ago. Just flipped 100k miles. I had all service done at dealership. Honda agreed to cover 60% of the cost. Still ran $2200 out of pocket. Disappointed this happened so early in a civic touring.

I bought my 2016 LX 6MT with only 65,000 km (approx 40,000 miles) only a couple months ago, and the more I drive it, the more I like it. I have the Canadian spec of course which comes with a few extras.

Biggest surprise - how well it handles the twisties here in the BC mountains. This thing really corners well, and the 6MT adds a fair bit of fun to the driving experience.

Another surprise is how much scoot I can coax from it now that I am fully used to driving it. No power house by any stretch, but it'll get up and boogie when driven in a conducive manner. :headbang:

Biggest disappointment - by far, the amount of road noise. It's monstrous, the worst car I have ever owned, including my lifted off-roaders. I think it's a combination of crap tires and cheap insulation. I am about to put brand new winters on it, so we'll see how that goes. Spring will see a new summer rim and tire package.

Another disappointment is that Honda chose to lower this generation by an inch. Bad move Honda. These interior mountain roads in BC are lumpy and full of cracks and pot holes. I have learned to avoid much of it, but when I first got it, I was banging around regularly. I have learned to adjust and it's not so bad now.

Only 1 other small gripe is the lack of adjustable intermittent wipers. You get one pulse speed, and that's it. Seems like a thoughtless place to save a few bucks. I mean, c'mon guys.

As stated above though, the more I drive it, the more I like it.:drive:
