THis is a great price! ..... though the numbers can get a little scewed when you have a trade in. They could say they are lowering the price, but they are really just givving you a little less for your trade in; based on what they figure they can get for your trade in on the other side.

but either way , sounds like a great deal. congratz! :)
Thanks!

Oh yes, the trade in is another beast entirely. That's why I left it out the first time.

I suggest you negotiate without talking too much about the trade in. Then negotiate on the trade in. Then negotiate on the entire price. You have a fair amount of leverage because you can always walk away from the deal, but they are very unlikly to resend their offer.

I had a quote from CarMax for 6k so I had a floor to work with. Taking into account tax savings an offer of $5,700 from the dealer would have been equivalent. They started with a low ball offer of 5K. Thank god my fiancee was there talked them up to 6.5K. I would have caved way earlier! In fact I just should have left during that because I'm sure she would do waaaaay better without me.

If I had more time I would have taken that offer to another dealer about 30 minutes away and see if I could have gotten some more out of it, but my time was limited and I've been having problems with my old car and was anxious to be done with it. Overall I feel okay about it.

The only reason to sell it to the place you buy your car is if you get a better deal (although there are tax savings if you do). I may have sold it privately if it wasn't having issues, but I didn't feel good about doing that.

Cool. Well glad your gf was there to help with the deal. every little bit helps.

thats funny because when we went to negotiate my girlfriends purchase of her new CRV, she ended up being the harder negotiater than me. lol .... but they didn't go any farther down than the great price i already had negotiated with them before we got there. lol

Too funny - I don't let my hubby negotiate at all...he might walk away with a couple hundred under sticker ;)

there wasnt a trade involved, im in orange county, ca
honestly, i just bounce from dealer to dealer asking if they can beat the previous offer. its time consuming but well worth it

Same when I was married, he would buy the worst car on the lot and pay rediculous pricing. Even 18 years post divorce, he still asks my advice on pricing.

Today I was quoted $22,589 otd plus taxes/dmv for an EX-T w/ honda sensing.
@civicryan Do you mean $22589 otd or $22589 plus taxes/dmv? Maybe I'm using otd incorrectly but I was thinking otd meant the final price after taxes and everything.

Which dealership was this in SoCal, was it Riverside? , I might get something similar so looking for a good price. Thank you

I just got an internet OTD 24,035 for the EX-T w HS in Texas. It was 22,913 + TTL, is this really good enough to where I should accept it or keep negotiating? thanks
