Quick question, how do you know if the navigation or the infotainment system has an update? My HondaLink doesn't seem to be telling me that there are new updates for the systems..

Excellent question! From what I've experienced, it comes down to you having to take the vehicle into the dealership and the tech plugging into their system to check for any available updates. I also have never been provided with an update notification from the infotainment center itself or the IOS app....as I have stated multiple times and others as well....this is the most disappointing part of the vehicle for myself.

Is it unlimited updates with the infotainment along with GPS updates?

I am not sure regarding the updates for GPS...however, as far as updates on the infotainment they would be provided under warranty if there is considered an "Issue" at hand. Often times you have to "Push" extremely hard to have the dealer install any update that is available. Or at least that has been the case for my....others may have had more success.

I am an early adopter of the 2016 Honda Accord Touring, purchased in Jan. 2016. I've been having issues with the following:
  • BT connectivity issues (music playing and BT connected to phone, but upper unit display shows no phone connected)
  • Navigation issue (nav. marker jitters and drifts off-road)
  • Web browsing lag (non-responsive pages, slow loading)
Took the car to the same dealership near me multiple times regarding the nav. issue (which was the most pressing) and have been told that 1. I need my actual HU replaced (which never happened) and 2. the software version is out of date (which they supposedly fixed).

I'l be monitoring the software version for both the OS as well as the navigation (which is running on Garmin v2.00) and will be taking it to a different dealership to see if they come up with another solution.

Your issue with the hu not recognizing the iPhone unless it's unlocked is primarily a iOS 10 glitch. It's annoying but better than the original iOS 10.0 that rendered most phones unusable. Don't worry about your unit. You will have one of the latest ones placed into the civics. But manufacturing is going to be more complicated than looking up part numbers. I would not be surprised if your car uses a different firmware. Even though it's a civic and shares 90 percent of the parts your electronics could be different. Various ecu's or even the regulatory changes between countries could alter a firmware. If you see problems persisting then just feed back and see if anyone has a fix.
Ps. A few items I did to mine to help eliminate any potential gremlins.
1. Go into the hu setting and turn on the memory dump. I set mine to 2:30 am. In essence. It does the same thing as a reboot of your HU. It helped primarily when ios10 first launched.
2. At the moment CarPlay only works over USB. Future updates to CarPlay iOS is suppose to support Bluetooth mirroring. If you don't use Bluetooth CarPlay then only select USB in your iPhone CarPlay settings. Bluetooth and apple do not play well together. It reduces potential issues and USB gives you a better sound quality.
3. Turn off the cars wifi if not in use. If you use wifi and Bluetooth then be ware. The two are notorious for having conflicts with one another.
Good luck with the car. I'm a bit jealous. I love my sedan. But I'd love to have me a hatch.
Where do you find the memory dump setting? Specifically.

Thanks.

Let me interject a little bit of experience here. I have a '16 Coupe Touring. My other car is a $58K '14 BMW 328i with all the electronic options.

The Honda entertainment works as well as or even better than the BMW. To me, the only thing I dislike about the Honda isn't Honda at all - it's Apple Car Play (which I detest).

PS - If Bluetooth is a big issue for you (and it's not for me), just plug in your phone.

BS. I shouldn't have to plug in my iPhone to listen to music. I'm temporary renting an Altima while my Honda is in the body shop and I forgot how great Bluetooth is when listening to music. This is my third Honda and by far the worst one due to this damn infotainment system.
