Cancelling Extended Warranty

Just call your dealer tell them your cancelling it. Didnt they give you a break when you agreed to it? I got my 7 years honda extended warranty for good price. It wasnt easy but I stand my ground.

Hey guys, my car got totaled and I didn't even get to reach my first oil change. My down payment basically all went to the extended warranty. Am I able to get my money back?

Depends on ur insurance. In BC we have whats called new car replacement. Even car is 3 yrs
Old they will replace it with what the same car cost
Today.

Sorry to hear your troubles. Hopefully you can get at least some of your money back. You would think at least pro-rated to some degree would be fair. I'll probably get flamed for saying this but unfortunately extended warranties (cars, toasters, VCR doesn't matter) are a suckers bet.
Think. Why pay now upfront and for certain vs potentially in the future? It's a numbers game waaaaay in their favor and a huge profit center.
Majority of problems occur at the beginning and end of mechanical equipment's useful lifespan. Mfg'r warranty covers the front end issues. Put the $1,500 or whatever it costs in the bank and use it on the back end. Plus it's a Honda were talking about Now if it was a Cheby.... LOL

i got my canceled. just received my check today. all i need to do is send an extended warranty termination letter

I just don't like extended warranties. They're nothing but a vile money-grab. They don't run at the end of your factory warranty, they run concurrently! That means if you got a new Civic with a three-year warranty and then opt for an aftermarket warranty, you're voluntarily handing over bags of cash to some douchebags who incur zero risk in exchange for the added financing you have to pay for, including interest for the same warranty that the factory covered in the first place. If anything goes wrong, they'll conveniently refer you back to your factory warranty.

Not their fault really. A buyer should know the details of his coverage beforehand but still, the audacity...

The car won't be covered after three years. So for $980 ~ I'm covered for an additional 5 years.

One or two jobs within that time frame will cost at least that much from the dealer. There's a million things that can go wrong in my Touring 1.5T.

It's a money grab if you fall for the finance guy's $3,000 up-sell but for less than $1k, HC will most likely pay dividends.

Not to mention it's refundable (prorated) if you want to cancel later on, includes roadside assistance (which I probably won't use), and the service contract is transferable to another person if you decide to sell it before the 8 years is up.

Honda Care at prices listed here seems like an excellent deal, plus it's peace of mind and insurance against a costly repair.

I'm thinking about getting HC through the listed dealer in Ma. are my odds that I need to jump on this now or can I wait and let the mfg warranty continue to run. iow, a year from now hoping to get the great pricing talked about in here. is this doable?

This pricing is only available if your vehicle is under 6000 miles

My usual spiel: For my Touring, my 8yr/125K/$0 HondaCare policy is costing me an effective $135/yr calculated for years 4-8 ($1005 price from Hyannis Honda minus the minimum AAA I'll save). Too good a deal to pass up for the electronics coverage alone! Prices are locked in, whereas parts & labor, AAA, hotel for breakdown on trips, etc. will only go up down the line if you wing it. The NC dealer who sold me the car pays $1010 for this HC policy and sells it for $2800 (!) Even if nothing covered breaks, the peace of mind is worth it to me. On the other hand, it has the potential to save thousands. A faulty sensor on my previous '96 Civic coupe cost $600 to replace. The Touring was a big expense, but, if I can carry the piano, I can carry the stool.

When you get a HC quote from a discount dealer, the offer has a short expiration date. There is no guarantee that if you wait a year or three, you'll get the same deal (and I see little reason the price wouldn't go up).

I'm just inherently opposed to any service contract that runs concurrently with a factory warranty. I mean, if you have a 3yr/36Kmi factory warranty and then purchase a parasitic warranty that exists for the same timeframe, it's like flushing your paycheck down the toilet. Why would anyone do this?

Call it a 5 year or 8 year warranty, whatever floats your boat

You're paying for the extra 5 years (plus roadside assistance and rental car coverage)

Exactly. There are one or two extra perks for roadside assistance in the first 3 years, but the point is that you have to purchase it while still under the original 3-yr warranty, and it covers the following 5 years (years 4-8). It's no different than purchasing an extended warranty when you buy an appliance -- it covers a time period after the original warranty runs out. As I posted above, discounted Honda Care is, IMO, cheap. You could probably wait until the very end of your original warranty to purchase it; however, the quotes may be a little higher.
