I recently purchased a new 2016 civic LX model but Im starting to regret not getting the EX because of the hub cap it comes with. I want to replace my wheels but the dealership says it will void any warranty coverage on the suspension unless they are Honda Genuine wheels. Anyone been in this situation before?

They have to prove that your wheels caused damage to whatever suspension part it is that needs fixing.

If you get 9.5" wide rims with 0 offset, and you have steering issues, they will void warranty.

But unless you're planning on getting something ridiculous like square wheels, tell them to go fuck themselves and find another dealer.

I've never heard of that. If this is true, it would wipe out the entire after market wheel industry and companies such as Tirerack would not exist. As inv4zn has suggested, I'd go to another dealer from now on.

no, no, weight of the wheel can effect drive train wear.

What would an aftermarket wheel that is lighter than a stock wheel (which 99% of aftermarket wheels are) do for drivetrain wear?

I would start by asking for a different service writer, the one who told you this should go back to class..
if a more experienced service writer concurs then I would seek a new service department entirely.

I'd make sure they weighed close or less than OEM w/tire, just put one on your bath scale, 10lbs. more is huge and common.

In my mind a wheel / tire combo that weighs more than OEM should void the warranty!
