Garmin Map Updates

FAT32 and older. Not exFAT, NTFS, or newer is the point.

Garmin code in the car writes some system identification key(s) to the thumbdrive. Then Garmin Express on the PC (laptop or desktop) reads it and validates it. The reason they do this, I posit, is to assure that you are entitled to download the data, which exact version/system they need to download the data for, and what version you are presently running.

Hi. i also had the problem regarding Garmin in my new crv, the map is old and i have asked for a new since 2 weeks now,, answer is, you have 4 opdates together With the car but Honda cant provide you, you should already have the latest opdate from Garmin. hmmmmmm , in my former car i had TomTom navi, it works a lot better and was opdatet.

Has anyone tried updating their maps recently?

Garmin just released the 2017.20 map update for CERTAIN DEVICES ONLY, and I wanted to see how behind Honda is!

We need to see if there is someway to hack this to get the newest maps on it!

Do you know what version it is?

I just checked for my Garmin Nuvi (handheld unit) and it is up to 2017.30!

I went through the update process properly. Before updating I checked and I was using V2.83 and after updating the same V2.83. So, I'm a little confused if the update was successful even though it said " update successful" after the instaltion.

I guess I meant what MAP version is it? 2016.30 or something like that!

did mine this afternoon. Took about 20 minutes to load the data to the thumb drive, and about 30 minutes to update the maps in the car.

Just updated the maps. Took an hour to download, 10 min to copy to sd card, and about 20 min to upload to the car. The only glitch was the Garmin software wouldn't recognize the sd card until I reformatted it.

Correct! The SD cards and flash drives need to be formatted to FAT32 when communicating with the car!
