I'm switching to Michelin Defenders or Goodyear Comfortred Touring.
After having both Michelin HydroEdge and Michelin Defenders on my 7thGen Civic, I have to agree. Great in three and a half seasons (reasonable in snow, but not the equivalent of dedicated snow tires), handles great wet or dry, rated to 90,000 miles...They'll be my go to. Continental has a few models that are also worth a look.

The Firestones have been okay for current driving, but it's clear their lateral grip isn't even close to a match for quality all-season performance radials.

I'm a big fan of the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06. I used the original DWS on my '08 Civic (stocks on that car were Bridgestone Potenza, which are even worse than the Firestones) and I've never looked back. The DWS06 seems to address the minor handling gripe I had with the original (that I mitigated by slightly over inflating) though I haven't needed to drive one through snow yet to evaluate actual winter performance.

Another great tire is Goodyear Triple Tred. I have had them on all kinds of vehicles. Great dry handling and insanely awesome in the rain. Even in snow they are very good. I hate these firestones.

Big fan of these myself. Had the original DWS version on my old Mazda up here in MA. Never felt such confidence driving on a wet highway. Snow performance was a bit above average for an AS tire, but obviously didn't compare to a dedicated winter tire. Still, it's the rare AS tire that is very good for three seasons and fairly good for the fourth.

Looking forward to buying the DWS06 for my Civic but will use the OEM FT140s until mid-December or so.

I often feel like I have a bumpy ride, no matter the road I'm driving in. Do you guys think this is purely because of the OEM Firestone wheels I have? How much of an improvement would I have switching to something else? This is a considerable amount of money, and since I can't really do a test drive on them, I'd rather get a good opinion from you guys. I live in Florida, so if I was to switch, I don't have to get winter tires.

Tires do affect the ride but if you feel it's too bumpy, I think that's more the suspension than the tires. Standout tire characteristics tend to be in traction: how they take turns, braking distance, road noise, etc.

Even on the FT140 I can't say I felt any particular bumpiness to the car, but I'm used to stiffer suspensions.

If you haven't already, I would browse the reviews @ Tirerack to get a good idea of what summer tires would work for you within a particular price range. Lots of good feedback there...I wouldn't focus on one or two particular reviews but rather the overall review trend for a particular tire.

I've been a bit cheap and have only had one set of tires year-round up here in New England since I started (legally) driving over 20 years ago. You'll have much more flexibility with only needing summer tires.

I think it's more the suspension characteristics, definitely more of a firm (yet still fairly plush) ride. Also the fact that I've never seen anywhere in the US with great highways, nothing is smooth anymore IMO.

Oh man, I'm originally from Brazil, and the roads here are FAR better than the ones there. The reason I feel like it gets bumpier with the Civic is because I can't remember noticing the bumpiness on my Sentra 13. Given, they were like 15" wheels, so may be due to that?

Typically a bigger wheel means less sidewall, hence a bumpier/stiffer ride with all things being equal. However, it's difficult to say as you are comparing your Civic to a Sentra. The only suggestion I have for you is to check the tire pressure and see if the tires are overinflated as that will also make for a bumpy ride.

What's the mileage rating on the Firestone OEM's? I had trouble finding the information.

On my old car, I had the Michelin Harmony and then Defenders. The Harmonies lasted me about 80k miles. The defenders were rated to about 90k. I probably had about 30k on them when I sold the car.

The information I found via Googling when I sold mine told me the treadwear rating was 560, which further Googling tells me could be a maximum of 150k miles. I'm not sure I believe that they'll last quite that long though.

I'm at 21k, with in between 7 & 8/32" left. 85% highway driving. Mixed driving, I'd assume 50-60k.

I read through the threads but still can't figure out whether or not I should replace my Firestone FT140 with 5,700 miles on them since Colorado weather can be a little tricky. Do you think they will be good enough for snow through the winter? or should I just replace them now.... Thanks
