Hello, this is my very first post and sad that it has to be this. About a week and a half ago a motor home merged into my lane causing the whole left side of the FK8 to be damaged. I had only had the car for about a month, and had just taken the temp plates off!! My question for this awesome community is, should this be repaired or fight the insurance company for a total loss? It was new and only had 2k miles, I guess if it does get repaired, it probably won’t feel the same. Please help.

Hey brother, I feel for you. At least you're safe! FR that's what counts. The cars replaceable and I think that's probably what will happen. You were insured, they're at fault, I think the total option looks like it will be on the table with that rear wheel. I would ask for exactly the OTD price you paid last month and score the same or maybe better deal this month. Good luck, all should be fine.

Damn! I feel for you!
I'd go ballistic if that happened to me.
IMO, with obvious chassis damage from the looks of your rear wheel get it written off and fight with the insurance co.
Get it settled and there should be some 2020's left for you to purchase as a replacement.

It's shitty but there'll be plenty, probably at the same or lesser price this month. Might have to wait a couple weeks for a color. It'll get auctioned as salvaged and live a happy second life someday.

If it has frame damage there is no point. It's prob gonna cost more than what it's worth to repair.

I would guess that’s a total loss based on having to replace the rear quarter panel, both doors, fender, at least one wheel and a host of rear suspension components alone.

Sorry it happened, hopefully don’t have to fight insurance to give you proper replacement cost and you can find another one without much hassle!

It’s hard to tell visually, but this looks repairable to me. I see suspension damage and body panel damage. Given the high residual value of these cars, it may not be totaled. I wouldn’t worry too much about it never being the same. That depends entirely on who performs the repairs. I had a 2010 GTI come back from far worse than that. You couldn’t tell anything had ever happened to it.

The repair cost will probably be over their "total it out" cost, but I think you could be repaired if you really wanted.

That looks like a total loss, but I guess you can never be too sure. When I got rear ended, I had similar suspension damage, had to replace the rear bumper and part of the rear quarter panel and a wheel and tire, and the total came to roughly 15k

hi. sorry for your loss but glad you are ok and the CTR kept you safe!! I too think they will want to repair that. if so, be SURE to argue for 'diminshed loss value'. this is something that you can get from the insurance company because: it's a 'special' limited production car. it was virtually new. if you ever plan to sell it it will adversely affect the sale value (see previous two points). i'd shoot for $5k-7k diminished value on top of the repairs. good luck!

That SUX! What a beautiful car. Sorry for the situation but glad you were not injured. People drive like idiots. I hope you can work through this in a satisfactory to you manner. As I am neither a mechanic nor a body guy I cannot offer anything on repairability. Cars these days seem to be considered throw aways because of repair costs...let's hope not on this one, if not for you for someone else.

......but this looks repairable to me..........
Hate to say it, but ANYTHING is repairable in the NA automobile industry. Depends who has the financial resources to do so. Insurance companies have a cutoff for every kind of damage, once exceeded, they write-off the vehicle. Then come the independent collision repair shops who specialize in buying "totalled" vehicles for resale.
With a big repair bill, a vehicle will always be classified as a "rebuilt". A status which comes with further depreciation value. In addition, if the repair is not done "right", it'll never drive true.
Good luck OP, and am sure you'll get a very fair settlement.

My guess is that's repairable and the insurance company will not want to total it. But good move consulting with an attorney, you need somebody who knows and can explain your options.
