There was a user in another forum that got fined when they went to the States but after writing a letter they got them to throw out the ticket.

It makes no sense to fine OUT OF TOWNERS, I've been to Cleveland and Buffalo twice this year.

I never understood the out-of-state thing. Obviously it's a compliance issue technically, but you're supposed to tint at a level legal for any state you might possibly cross into? That's realistic. :rolleyes:o_O

I personally think all window tinting should be illegal.

Sometimes it is necessary to see through the windows to the other side of the car or to make eye contact with the other driver.

Window tinting prevents this.

I'm sure there are UV coatings that block the sun's rays and are transparent to visible light. This would work for those in sunny climates.

You even now see trucks with large video panels on the back and sides with cameras up front that let you "see" beyond the truck.

Barry.

I have no trouble seeing out of darker tint inside a car. Where I live, in Los Angeles CA, I believe dark tint on the front windows and windshield are illegal, but rarely enforced. Ive been pulled over once in ten years.

I cant live without my tint given how i am not a fan of sunny days without clouds, glare at night from oncoming headlights, and glare during early morning hours. I also love how it looks.

In Canada we have had a lot of pedestrian and cyclists struck in Toronto the last couple of years. Cyclists said they could not make eye contact with the driver to ensure they had seen them making it unsafe. Also police want to be able to see inside the vehicle if you are using your phone as well. I'll be honest I feel like majority of people who tint at least the young population driving civics do it for privacy rather than health concerns.

if you dont want to tint your windows and look at people then the alternative solution would be to just wear sunglasses and pivot your eyes vs turning your head looking at them. i just tinted my car down to 18% and love it especially here in FL.

for me, 2 reasons to tint:

1. hot as hell in FL
2. might as well look cool as hell in FL too

I went almost 6 months without tint and getting in my car after work, where my car is parked outside, was miserable when you have black leather. I got the darkest allowed in my state and noticed an immediate difference in UV protection. Car still gets hot but not so hot that I can barely sit in the seat without being on fire.

I have no problem seeing out of the windows at night. I only see distorted colors when I wear polarized sunglasses and it's not really an issue even then. Every so often, cops around here decided to be dicks about tint so I carry the receipt that shows the percentages of tint as proof that I'm within the legal limit.

Yesterday morning in Tucson a pedestrian was killed while the driver was pulling the visor down to block the sun because he had been blinded. That same evening I was almost hit while out running because the driver was blinded by the sunset.

Now I'm of the opinion that if you can't see, you shouldn't drive. A car is a deadly weapon and should be handled as carefully as one would a gun. In places where the sun can be just as deadly, with so few buildings, trees, and hills to block it and a clear sky all the way to the horizon, I don't think tint is so bad.

I was talking about pedestrian and cyclists being able to see the driver not vice versa. If the pedestrian or cyclist noticed the driver didn't make eye contact with them then they would assume he didn't see them and they would not put themselves in harms way.

So if the said pedesrian or byclist did not see the driver looking their way, tint or no tint, why would they leave their safety up to chance? As a pedestrian I know I would never cross without certainty i am safe.

I also get the sense that if you as a driver are in the habit of mowing down pedestrians because of tint, that speaks of poor judgement, if not some degree of sociopathy, more so than the tint itself being a bad thing.

Again it has nothing to do with the driver stand point its the pedestrian and cyclists confirming that the driver saw them.

For example left turns on a green or right turns at red lights especially in sub urban areas where there won't be as much pedestrian so the driver would not think to look to their right to see pedestrians whilst making a right turn on a red.

Of course having tint wont make you run over people but what's the harm in a pedestrian/cyclist making eye contact with you before crossing the road?

Can't imagine a tint ticket sticking if you're from out of state. My state doesn't require a front plate. I had an officer a few months ago pass the other way in another state that requires front plates and he whipped around and did a u-turn to pull me over. By the time he got close enough I imagine he saw the tag and knew I was OK in my state but he pulled me over anyway as he put on his lights right when he did the u-turn. He checked my license and insurance and then went on his way. No ticket for me.

He did ask how long I was visiting. Took about 10 minutes. No biggie. I would think tint is the same.

Tint really helps for hiding things in your vehicle. Worth it just for that alone.

I just recently about 2 weeks ago now got my 2017 EX-T sedan tinted using LLumar ATC 35%(Medium Dye Film) on my rear windows and LLumar CTX 35%(Medium Ceramic Film) on my fronts and I must admit, its pretty dark thanks to the black interior. Luckily, I can open my sunroof shade to let in some light so that helps alittle with it not looking so dark. Im from Los Angeles, cops around here constantly enforce illegal tints. No issues so far thank god. I recommend you go light tint all around for a clean not so dark look because medium tint will be dark.
You can check out the link below directly from LLumar's webpage which shows the different tint shades on many makes and models. They have our Civic X on there and must admit their simulator is very accurate.

Is clear tint worth getting just for the UV protection?

I don't want to spend $250-$300 and get pulled over again.
That's the risk of getting them tinted! If you don't have the funds or don't want the trouble of getting pulled over for them, I wouldn't recommend getting them. Since I've been pulled over, I usually just roll my windows down during big streets/intersections.

Man, In New York. Cops can either be dickweeds and shit but I personally feel that Tints make the car look much nicer. It adds texture and taste to your vehicle...
