So I just got my custom wheels 18x9.5 +40. I wasn’t planning on getting custom tires but it looks like o need them since the stock tires are thinner and I’m at risk of debeading the tire from the wheel on impact. I wanted to see your guys setups. Are you guys on stock or custom tires and what wheel sizes are you running? Thanks in advanced.

Sounds like you need a 245/35 R18 tire. Its roughly the same total diameter in " to the OEM 18" is which is 235/40 R18 but its a slightly wider tire setup. That way it would not look that stretched, not just slightly curved on the sidewall. If you want traction and the peace of mind that ur wheel setup would not debead from a pothole or curb then try a 255/35 R18 or a 265/30 R18.

Only downside of running a wider tire is decreased fuel mileage.

This is true, but the benefits oftraction out weight the cons of have your 35 MPG go down to 30-32MPG IMO.
When I was still using the Contiprocontact 235/40, I was able to hit 40 mpg. But when I switched to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ 245/40, highest I can go is 33 mpg.

The contiprocontacts have a much better rolling resistance, its 2nd only to the michelin primacy MXM4 in its category. The michelin PS A/S 3+ has a rather high rolling resistance which would greatly decrease the MPGs you are getting, then again they are UHP A/S tires when the contiprocontacts are a HP A/S tire. Personally I'd that the A/S 3+ anyway the wet and light snow traction is superior to the procontacts

Yeah, the Contiprocontact’s strength is only the good fuel mileage, other than that, it’s a crappy expensive tire.

Don't get thinner tires.. omg, these 18"s are really the limits of reasonability with our tiny civics, Lol. Even 18"s need constant monitoring for pressures and stuff. I wouldn't DARE get 19's or 20" tires. Actually, look at the tire threads, these 19's & 20's are getting destroyed so easily.. go wider (if needed), not thinner..

If it's true that the same driver could get 40 mpg on these Contis vs. 33 mpg on the more grippy Michelins, you get a discount of over $424 assuming fuel at only $2 a gallon and 40 kmiles on the tires. With more expensive fuel, much more. So they are not so expensive as they seem, or the ultra tires are really much more expensive than they seem. Not even counting their shorter mileage. It's just one compromise (combination of properties), more optimal for some drivers than others.

I'm not sure we are talking about the same tire, but based on mine, I'm actually quite happy with my contiProcontacts. Hard to make them squeal or slide and still quite quiet. Probably the best factory tires I ever had on a new car.

I think you mean higher profile (more sidewall) versus lower profile (less sidewall). Not thinner versus wider tires.

I went 255/35 on my 18x9.5 +45 wheels but I definitely could have gotten 265.

255 is still a slight stretch on 9.5 width
Well I decided to go with the stock tire stretch, I honestly just didn’t want to spend money on new tires lol

Here’s a pic

Looks good. I'm surprised a 235/40 doesn't really looked stretched on a 9.5" wheel.

Who is getting that mileage(naturally, without trying)?

I have a stock touring 1.5t and I get 28.3 mpg and I don't beat on it.
