I've been looking at the explanations for rev hang in the Si's. The emissions controls are the culprit there. Why no rev hang in the Type R?

Because it uses a single mass flywheel rather than dual like other civics
Thanks. I couldn't find an explanation. All the info. was regarding electronic vs. mechanical throttle body controls. (now I can research the difference between fly wheel setups).

If you ever upgrade your clutch, you should swap to a SMF too. The weight savings and the rev drop is instantly noticeable.

Why does the Type R have a SMF, and the Si a DMF?

The CTR is Honda’s top of the line performance civic so they didn’t cut corners trying to get a couple extra miles per gallon out of her and making it quieter by throwing a DMF on it. Same way the stock clutch can handle near 500 wheel hp while the si is known to slip with just a tune. The si is marketed as the affordable in between performance version between the 1.5 turbo and the CTR.

The stock tune CTR still has artificial rev hang. Just less than the Si. It's just a matter of the tune. Hondata has an option to reduce the rev hang.

CTR can probably get away with poorer emissions because there are a lot less of the compared to the Si.

I have not noticed any rev hang on my '19 R. I've not tracked mine, but have driven pretty aggressively. I'm pretty careful on my shifts, so I haven't experienced any grinding or lockouts so far.

There is most definitely rev hang on the CTR. Go to 5-6k in 3rd shift up quickly, car will jerk. Do the same thing but watch the RPM slowly drop and stop before letting the clutch out.

That's rev hang. If you wait until the stop it'll be smooth.

Not comparable to that of an si still.

The RPMs (revs) hang higher for al little longer between shifts. It makes it longer to shift quickly. Normally when you push in the clutch pedal, the revs drop like a rock. The Type R doesn't do this, and the Si is even slower to do it.

To expand, the dual-mass flywheel adds rev hang because it has more inertia and takes longer to spin itself down. Our single mass flywheel slows down much faster. Our ECU also adds some 'rev hang' too, but in the form of the throttle plate closing slightly slower, which can be lessened with Hondata.
