It's a VERY tempting trade for me - only reason being I'm a Toyota mechanic, so financially (parts, repairs, warranty work) its a no brainer. Going to have to drive it but tbh I don't see this being more fun than the fk8

Very cool - but different class of car. AWD and 3 cylinder, so it’s techy and engineered like crazy, but it’s smaller and in order to get limited slip diffs it has to be the top of the line Circuit model. This just feels like an STI variant with a Toyota badge - which makes conspiracy theories go off in my head since the STI in cancelled and Toyota has a stake in Subaru. ?
The LSDs are optional on the base (Core) model.

The Subaru-Toyota rumored sports car is something else, hopefully that'll materialize.

I'll likely trade my Si for the GR Corolla in 2-3 years, but it'll come down to which is more fun to drive, Type R or GRC.

I kinda like the idea of an oddball number of cylinders. Certainly sort of unique, like the Audi RS models with five cylinders. Only the Gazoo is a hell of a lot less expensive, and has a manual.

No, because I'm holding out for a Supra. I do think the GR Corolla is cool as hell though, especially the circuit edition. What I don't get is making LSDs an option instead of standard on the core model. What's the point of buying this car if you don't get an LSD with it?

No for me and for good reasons:

1. Toyotas are nice but I only would own the early models from 1996 and down. They had more character, less complicated to fix and modify, and cheaper overall.
2. I only choose a true hatchback as a 3dr. You get the efficient use of a hatch with storage, less overall weight than a 5dr, more stylish than a 5dr, and more usability as a track monster if deciding to modify.
3. New cars cost more. Also in the current state of inflation, markup, additional dealer fees/transport, availability, taxes, new car payments, buying a brand new car is just not even viable and make any sense unless you are financially stable with no worries. I know just buying my car used at 48k miles on a payment plan came to $27k in the end once its all paid off. Thats just unheard of back in 2005 when I bought my brand new civic with 43 miles and costed $13k. Then if this toyota has a new engine design, turbo'd, and awd, gotta plan on a budget for repairs and parts availability down the line, after the warranty goes out. If anything, might only be viable as a lease.
4. I love my honda. It maybe stock and auto, its been reliable as hell and given me amazing mpg averaging 39-49 daily plus style wise just too beautiful. GenX's are my fav gen, hands down.

It makes perfect sense - why buy the LSDs if you're looking for a GTI competitor, and will never track it or go snow drifting. There's definitely both buyers.

I've been holding on to the Civic and weighing future options. I always intended on cross shopping the Integra, Z, and GR Corolla when they all debuted. Honda really lost be with the Integra basically being the same engine/drivetrain (1.5T+CVT)as my hatchback, but I'm tuned to more power, so it's dead in my eyes. I LOVE the Z, but I feel like it's never coming out and will likely be just outside of my price range.

I also have a Z4 coupe, so I would have to give that up because I can't have 2 two-seaters. I need to haul kiddos at least on occasion. The GRC looks like a winner and I'm really impressed/happy with what Toyota has done. BUT, I have degenerative knees from a life of sports injuries. 3 pedals is hard for me and I've barely driven my wife's M2 competition because I don't want to deal with a day of knee pain afterwards. I don't think I can daily a manual car, especially when I have to return to commuting to work in September, driving through LA and Orange county each day. My stomach turns at the thought.

If they make and 8-speed auto GRC like we've been hearing about, then it would for sure be bye-bye Honda.

I also have knee problems, had to give up soccer. But I drive manuals, so I'm curious why it bothers you. My right knee bothers me more cause it's always in use, while the left knee gets to rest and stretch more.

In high school playing football I suffered a full left knee dislocation and tore basically everything. ACL, MCL, miniscus, all gone. I didn’t have much of any cartilage left, so it’s been a lot of bone-one-bone movement for over 20 years now. It also didn’t help that I decided to get into rec league basketball in my early thru mid-30s, which only expedited my knee going to complete shit faster. My doctor says I should get a rebuild soon while I’m still relatively young and will heal faster.
