Whistle sound

I am not sure if you guys are still having this issue. I took delivery of a 2018 Civic Hatchback, I had this issue two days after. I just took it in, they are replacing the whole A/C unit for me, however, parts are on backorder so they gave me a rental.

Can you show a copy of the R/O?
I want to know what the advisor put for the comments.

I spoke to the dealer again last week, parts are on backorder. I'll post the paperwork once everything is fixed, should be early July.

2018 hatchback sport MT. I've had the car for about a month now. Noticed it very slightly the first week I had it, now it has around 1000 miles and it's a lot more apparent. I notice it much more when I'm coasting at around 37-47mph. Sound turns off as soon as I turn the AC/fan off. I'll be taking it to the dealer next week.

Was this ever resolved? I just test drove a '18 Sport hatch and I noticed this right away. Its the ac for sure but whats the fix?

My car used to have this noise too, but now it's gone. I think it went away after the dealership cleaned my AC, probably they checked the system and added gas too?

Ya I've noticed the whistling as well. 2018 civic touring, A/C on and it happens when I accelerate or coast to a stop.

Just took delivery on 2018 Sport Hatch Manual & it made my headache worse. This is disheartening to see another full & active thread, many months old with so many owners complaining, yet no actual results of this shared as being fixed by Honda.

The earlier post on the compressor makes sense as it spins with engine rpms as does this whining noise.

Bumping this thread in hopes some of you were treated well but just haven't posted yet? Seems like a few dealers sure have tried at least. Unlikely to see a recall anytime soon but I really want this noise gone.


Please be a hero & post a solution or at least add another experience to this list to validate the prob. further.

^ ^ Thanks for your detailed post. Sorry to read that Honda did not help. It further demonstrates their lack of ability to resolve this mechanically.

I plan to take mine to a few non-Honda shops and get written estimates of their inspection on this and potential solutions and recommendations. DID YOU DO THIS?

I'm sad to read that your mediator did not even help. Was this supposed to be the same as or similar to arbitration under a Lemon Law? That's the next step here, however I'm awaiting their "field tech" as Honda's last possible ability to fix before taking my case directly to Honda corporate.
