This is my first Honda vehicle and I must say, despite its first bugs I love it.

But speaking of said growing pains, I've been wondering if other Civics truly lived up to their reputation of being one of the most reliable cars to own or if they had their own issues.

So, what were your favourite Civic years/generations and did they have issues/recalls/etc. or were they more or less perfect?

First car was a 1996 Roma red Honda Divic DX hatch. Had your usual bolt ons of headers, intake, and exhaust for the D16y7 motor. It was a fun car to drive:) and it got me everywhere.

Favorite year would have to be the same as above a 1996 Civic EK4.:drive:

My 98 had over 200000 on the clock and has never let me down.

So I'm seeing a lot of mid to late '90s. Did the past few generations have reliability issues, mechanical, electrical, or otherwise?

My 06 civic coupe, bought right when it was released, has given me no problems whatsoever other than a few normal wear and tear things. I just bring it in for the oil change every 5000 miles or so and it keeps ticking like the beast that it is. I have actually never brought it into the dealer since I bought it other than the first oil change, because it was free. 149, 437 miles as we speak. Plus it was in a major accident as well (over 5000 damage, not my fault, by the way). That's why I am on this board and committed to getting another civic.

2016 Tenth Generation. Never considered a Civic before. Our first Honda was a 2009 Pilot. Now it would be hard for another manufacturer to win our business. My son has only driven Honda products as well as uses the Honda lawnmower, edger and snowblower.

Hope Honda has plans down the road for an electric vehicle.

'98 Civic Hatch MT
'98 6th Gen Civic DX Hatch Manual. Still going strong after 18 yrs @175K. Manual everything: manual trans, door locks, windows, hatch (No remote release).

Very low maintenance costs over those 18 years.

Early in its life, one recall for the ignition switch .

It just started having a transmission issue for the first time...reverse needs a couple tries to engage. It is not worth fixing. Who needs reverse anyway?

I am a software engineer who surprisingly believes in K.I.S.S for everything, including: cars, electronics & gadgets. Therefore, I like simple cars...less gadgets...less things to go wrong. However, I want leather for my next car. Therefore, the '16 Sport Touring Hatch is my next choice. I hope I do not regret it.

You can't beat the 6th gen! Red 97 EX coupe and black 99 DX hatch. Of course, the EXT is really growing on me. Best Civic since the 6th gen!
