I agree. I have a thing for the black Mad Max Interceptors so the Falcon XB is always on my mind. At one point in Massachusetts there were at least two of these cars. One was being converted into the Mad Max car and the other was a stock I think 1976 Ford Falcon XB GT 351. Was a little rusty but definitely a cool car.
Yes the mad max interceptor was definitely a cool car but you had to laugh at the supercharger on and off switch

All great cars.
Owned '68 RoadRunner 383 with the 727 automatic - great family ride. Took her to over 180,000 miles before the Berkshire winters ate her up. New owner stripped her in '86 to do a tribute replica.
All-time favorite (lust-mobile) was '70 Charger 440 6-pack with the 727 automatic.
I know what you mean. I’m on the other side of the state closer to Boston. Lotta salt ate many a nice muscle car or 70s/80s Japanese car.

If I’m not mistaken New Hampshire used less salt on their roads? I always had the proverbial “muscle car in a barn in New Hampshire” notion. Would dream of all the cool muscle cars up there when they began to disappear from site around here. Funny thing though, where I found my Challenger was in a barn in New Hampshire!

That’s for sure but it was cool! I remember a friend got into my brothers 1980 Turbo Trans Am and his first question was where the switch for the turbo! Hahaha! That was like in 1980 so back then all we knew about turbos and superchargers in the movies was from Mad Max.

Rumor has it that there actually was an engine that was built to have a working supercharger that could turn on and off via a heavy duty AC compressor clutch. It was actually an engine from a Pontiac GTO. Engine disappeared from existence or perhaps never existed.

FYI- The Mad Max interceptor one a Florida car museum is actually for sale. I enquired about the price a couple months ago but they never answered. Figure it’s more than the $100 I have to spend so out of my league!

Yes, unfortunately some British cars weren’t so good. I worked at Acura in the early 90s and the Cousin car of the Acura Legend was the Sterling 800 series cars that were British cars with Acura drivetrain. The electronics were far more primitive than what the late 80’s/90 Legend had. It literally looked like something from the 60s-70s.

I do love the look of many British cars though.

the Jenson cars used Mopar drivetrains and the 440 was a very docile engine that was very dependable. It was a gentle giant but the weight of this big block over the front wheels I’m sure effected handling tremendously.
Funny talking about British and America venture cars. chrysler was associated with sunbeam and the 65 sunbeam tiger had a ford 260
V8 correct me if I’m wrong but Chrysler didn’t have a small enough V8 at the time or it was a Shelby thing

Interesting! I know about the Sunbeam Tiger but I didn’t know that Chrysler had some affiliation with Sunbeam. Not sure if Shelby did either. Love the Shelby stuff. He had his hands in different stuff. In the late 60s he even helped develop the Toyota 2000GT. That was a neat looking car. I believe there was a convertible one made for a James Bond movie, forgot which one though.

I’ve always liked the classic Vette 454 (1971-1972) for its style and visceral power plant:

Very nice and they always have to have the classic luggage rack
I did see one that the owner painted the rack the same color as the car it didn’t look right

I remember as a kid seeing one of thee creep up on our family car during a drive. I saw that awesome nose, then the raised hood with the 454 emblem...then I saw the driver was an old lady with a full head of white hair!!!! This was like in the late 70s so she bought that car in her later years!

I love the “Disco” vettes. The curves are so gorgeous. I’m into custom cars from that period so the “love it or hate it” Vette from the movie Corvette Summer is pretty cool to me. The widebody Greenwood Vettes and IMSA Vettes were cool too.

Wow! Like it’s basically the same car!

Wonder if the Brits got the GLH-S versions?

I drove a friends Charger GLHS version and the torque steer literally will rips the steering wheel out of your hands on that car. Never experienced it before but it was weird!

nice article! I like the quad headlight mustangs. With the headlight covers and in black with fat rear tires it sorta reminds me of the Mad Max Interceptor.

Here’s the article. Nice write up.
