What intake duct is this?

I have a 2016 Honda Civic LX (Canadian Model) and I want to know what this duct is for and what it is called? It’s the area inside the circle. That looks open. As I’m mine seems to have a loose wall that may have cracked causing it to rattle at high speeds.

see the attached image (not my actual car got the picture off google) but the vent/duct is the same as I can stick my hand up into it.

I dont think it intakes to anything. It's just an air passage.

I dont recommend painting it like I had. Leave it black. The paint flakes off.

That's your engine intake, there's little box the air runs through down there to quiet it down before it gets to the engine...
