You know what I genuinely think was the beginning of the "It's all about me" mentality? Facebook. Facebook and selfies are all you need to know.

Having a bad day? Let the world know on Facebook. Your dog shat on your carpet? Tell the world. And while you're at it, get out the old selfie stick and take a ton of pics of YOURSELF for everyone to see YOU.

The other day we were at the store, waiting for curbside pickup. There was a young girl across from us, picking up her groceries curbside as well. We could see the guy coming with her cart of groceries and she jumped out of the car and immidiately began snapping selfies of herself with the groceries en route to her car and the store marquee showing in the background. My wife and I couldn't help but burst out laughing out loud as it was so ridiculous to see her posing as if it was something important. She saw us and wasn't pleased. We laughed even harder and louder.

If it wasn't reality, it sounds like a funny scene in a TV comedy.

That's the same kind of person that you see taking pictures of their panco crumbs on their sushi 🍤 (insert eye roll here)

Life gets better without social MEE DEE DUH folks.

Focus on real connections with people, mend relationships, take time out of your day to help a struggling neighbor or just even talking with them can go a long ways for people's mental health.

It's not all bad thankfully bc there are still some decent humans out there honestly trying & that's enough reason for a lot of us to get out of bed every morning.

I know this is long winded, so bare with me on this ya'll.

Just moved recently & one night I'm cleaning up my kitchen when I notice a small flash of light from my kitchen window, so of course I take a peek to see what's happening.

Neighbors kid had hit some debris on the freeway & damaged his subframe & headlights at some point & he was trying to put a new pair of scamazon ones in.

Being the mechanical inclined car nerd that I am, I went to see what was going on & if he needed help. Which I was surprised at his response of " I don't mind, you know way more than I do about any of this"

Ended up spending most of the night taking measurements to see how far off the frame was & explained how it was going to take some big hammer persuasive action to get within tolerance & that's a day time activity.

So I end up spending the next day getting it to spec again while teaching him some of the trade.

The parents were very thankful, shared snacks & even invited me in their beautiful home & to their church next week, then some of the other neighbors were intrigued & thus introduced themselves as well as loaning me their pick axe so I could burry my sprinkler system again.

This than lead to neighbors just pulling up chairs & hanging out in my driveway sharing a beer & talking about values & life anytime any of us have down time looking to unwind.

All this, came from one act of kindness I gave with some of my own personal hard labour & talent.

Now did I expect any of that to happen?
Most certainly not, I don't even think that's typical anymore in today's climate, that would never happen in my old neighborhood, they would just want more free work & never speak a word to you again while their kids stole your car in the middle of the night after smashing your security cameras...

But I took a chance in which this case it was reciprocated kindly was the result.

So, people like myself might be a dying breed, but at least it's a breed I can die being proud of, knowing some of that dying breed is still scattered around in small hidden pockets you have to look real hard for.. That's at least one reason to get up each day, for one another to lead by dying examples of what can be had in a world where nothing is promised but death & taxes.

There are good times. Last week, my company i have worked for the last 21 years, surprised me with a Retirement party. I was completely blown away, it's a small company but they are like family too. Feels really good for them to show how much they have appreciated me. Truly a blessing. Retirement is going to take some getting used to.
