Is it only us chicagoans who have the option of 89 octane aside the 87, 91, and 93? I never see it talked about online, ever!
a lot of the midwest has 89 and that's what i've typically put in my ex. seems to run a bit better than 87 which always has my car feeling sluggish. I've temporarily moved (might become permanent) and this area is harder to find mid grade so I might be testing out 91.

We get 89 here as well (no 93), but itā€™s a ā€˜go big or go homeā€™ thing. Most people only move to 89 if their older car starts knocking with 87ā€¦

I run 87 and I'm getting 40+ mpg regularly (attributed strictly to driving style and lack of stop-and-go traffic). I have the 2.0L so not apples to apples but I see zero benefit, no mpg change when I put 89/91/93 octane in the car. I do get better mileage with ethanol-free, which is expected, but I don't have any stations around here with it.

P.S. Octane is not a percentage

(tuned) E40 Blend with 93 octane base.
When there is no E85 around, I prefer Sunoco.

I refuse to buy:
LUKOIL
BP
SHELL
Exxon (unless I have to)

I run 87 which is mid-grade here in CO. Regular is 85. I have the 1.5T engine. I've seen as high as 50 MPG on freeway driving on I-25. I see 38-40 MPG on my commute with some stop and go traffic.

Hey Guys, ...Bit of an odd question. What gas are you guys running? I have a 2020 LX Hatch with the 1.5T engine. Since getting the car, I've always filled it with regular unleaded gas. Yet, after a few google searches, I found that Honda recommends using gas that contains 91% or higher octane. ...?
Wonder why Honda gives you an Owner's Manual when Google has "all the answers".
Octane is a number not a %. In USA 87 is fine for all modern Civics. Some engines will get 4-10 more HP with 89 or 91 Octane but none will be damaged.

This is correct. 87 is fine, but i have found running 87 to have the car way more sluggish than when i run 89 or 91. I've ran 89 most of the life of the car. I'm starting to debate a tune (i've looked at other cars but the markets pretty disappointing), so if i do keep my hatch and go that route then it'll be 91 due to the tune.

93 as required by tune, sometimes i'll throw in a lil E85 here and there.
Use to just put 87 when I wasn't tuned.
